P-R PHOTO/GABE DICKENS Peru resident Rick Healy, who recently published his book, "How to Survive Katrina and Other Disasters," shows several items he keeps in his 72-hour survival kit. He keeps plenty of bottled water and canned food on hand, as well as matches and candles, medical supplies, a flashlight and batteries, a hand-operated cellphone charger, a weather radio that also receives television stations, and more. The book provides practical advice on how to deal with not only natural disasters, but also, for instance, the death of a loved one, especially if that person was the primary source of income for the family.
