Lamberton MVP in hockey

PLATTSBURGH — The CVAC announced its hockey All-Star team and yearly honors after Saranac and Plattsburgh High's championship matchup in Lake Placid March 2.

First-year head coach Jamie Reidy of Plattsburgh High was named Coach of the Year after leading the Hornets to their first Section VII championship appearance since 2003, while NCCS forward Nate Lamberton received Most Valubable Player honors in helping the Cougars to the CVAC regular-season title and Lake Placid head coach Keith Clark received the Ray Holmes Sportsmanship Award.

First Team
Forwards

Shamus Foster

Beekmantown

Foster led the CVAC in points, netting 21 goals with 28 assists. His on-ice presence was especially important for an Eagle team that lost 12 seniors prior to the season.

Nate Lamberton
Northeastern Clinton

Lamberton finished tied for third in CVAC scoring and led his team with 22 goals and 12 assists. The Cougar forward played with a lot of third-period energy despite a large helping of ice time throughout games, playing a big role in his team's earning of the league regular season title.

Jordan Conroy
Plattsburgh High

Conroy assumed the playmaker role for the Hornets this season, tallying 23 assists in Plattsburgh's Section VII runner-up campaign. He also netted nine goals.

Brandon Patraw
Saranac Lake

Patraw finished even with Lamberton as the CVAC's third-leading scorer and led his team in points with 34. He scored 16 goals and assisted on 18.

First Team Defensemen
Jake Hooper

Saranac

Hooper led a tough Saranac defense that gave teams fits in the playoffs and helped the Chiefs to the 2009 Section VII Championship. He finished third on the team in scoring with four goals and nine assists.

Frank Buksa
Beekmantown

Buksa finished tied for 16th in scoring in the CVAC as a defenseman. The Eagle sophomore assisted on both of his team's Section VII semifinal goals and netted the game-winner in the quarterfinals.

Goaltender
Brandon Bechard

Plattsburgh High

Bechard helped PHS reach the Section VII Championship game as a freshman. He played a big role in keeping the Hornets in games until the team began to gel midway through the season and came up big in the Hornets' semifinal win over Beekmantown.

Second Team
Honorable Mention

The Second Team Forward selections consisted of Lake Placid's Matt Bussey, Saranac's Logan Morris and Beekmantown's Brett Palmer.

Logan McDougall of Saranac Lake and Connor Herdic and Gerald Marks of Northeastern Clinton were selected for Second Team Defense, while Saranac Lake's Dana Tarantelli was named Second Team goaltender.

Honorable Mention selections were Bobby Marks of Northeastern Clinton, Drew Tedford of Saranac Lake, Tim Walsh of Beekmantown, Ryan Latinville of Plattsburgh High, Aaron Tenbuuren of Saranac and AJ Murphy of Lake Placid.
