ROUSES POINT — The Cougars officially clinched a first-round bye for the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference boys' hockey playoffs with a 4-3 victory over Saranac Saturday.

Northeastern Clinton (12-5-4, 7-1-2) took a 4-1 lead in the second period with two goals from Bobby Marks and a goal apiece by Nate Lamberton and Gerald Marks.

"Bobby Marks is only a sophomore, but he plays much older," NCCS head coach Rob Francis said.

Kaleb Drollette netted Saranac's only second period goal. He also assisted on both of the Chiefs' third-period scores, which were both netted by Logan Morris.

"We didn't play our best game, we just played well enough," Francis said. "We have to step it up in the playoffs."

Brandon LaMere and Connor Herdic made two assists for the Cougars in the game.

Russell Merrill tallied a goal and two assists, Jordan Conroy recorded a goal and an assist and Kyle Maggy made two assists in the win.

Brett Burdo, Jared Murphy, Zach Clodgo and Peter Betrus also scored for the Hornets.
