Chef to teach about diet, nutrition
PLATTSBURGH — Chef Curtiss Hemm, founder and director of Pink Ribbon Cooking, will lecture on how to cook and prepare healthy meals at 6 p.m. Feb. 28, at the West Side Ballroom, 253 New York Road.
“When Cancer Invites Itself to Dinner, is part of the CVPH Community Lecture Series sponsored by the Foundation of CVPH.
Hemm, the former dean of culinary arts at the New England Culinary Institute, will share his family’s cancer journey after his wife was diagnosed. He will discuss how a healthy diet and nutrition can help heal both the body and soul. Guests are encouraged to bring recipes and any questions they might have about how food can help with the healing process.
Pink Ribbon Cooking is a Peru-based company that specializes in subjects relating to how food, nutrition and diet can improve quality of life before, during and after a cancer diagnosis.

Registrater for Garden, Landscape Symposium
TICONDEROGA — The King’s Garden at Fort Ticonderoga will present the second-annual Garden and Landscape Symposium, “Enhancing Life Through Gardening,” April 13, in the Deborah Clarke Mars Education Center.
This daylong symposium, geared for both beginning and experienced gardeners, provides helpful insights from garden experts who live and garden in upstate New York and Vermont. Speakers include: Anthony DeFranco of DeFranco Landscaping on “Stormwater Management and Rain Garden Design”; Evelyn Hadden, award-winning author, on “Beautiful No-Mow Yards”; Charlie Harrington of Harrington’s Nursery on “Simple and Successful Strategies for Starting Plants at Home”; Charlie Nardozzi, author and public-radio gardening expert, on “Eat Your Lawn: Growing Edibles around your Yard”; and Bridget Simpson, fitness instructor, on “Garden Power.”
The event is open only by pre-registration. The cost of the symposium, which includes a box lunch, is $75 ($65 for members of the Friends of Fort Ticonderoga).
