Farmers Market opens Wednesdays
LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid Farmers Market takes place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesdays on the grounds of Lake Placid Center for the Arts.

The producers-only market offers an assortment of fresh fruits and vegetables, cheeses, breads, herbs and plants. It also features entertainers, artists and more, with special guests ranging from local chefs preparing fresh recipes to clowns, environmental speakers and musicians, a press release said.

Pest Update workshop set for June 29
PLATTSBURGH — Cornell Cooperative Extension of Clinton County is offering a Lawn & Landscape Pest Update Workshop from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday, June 29.

Targeted to commercial lawn and landscape managers, it is open to the public. Guest speakers will be David Chinery, turf specialist; and Chuck Schmitt, landscape specialist; both with Cornell Cooperative Extension in the Albany area.

The cost is $10 per person, and two New York State Department of Environmental Conservation pesticide recertification credits are available. The program will begin at picnic area in front of CVPH Medical Center on Beekman Street in Plattsburgh and includes on-site visits to actual landscapes nearby. Dress for the weather, a press release said.

Garden Club to meet
ELIZABETHTOWN — The Elizabethtown-Westport Garden Club will host a Grow and Show workshop after its regular monthly meeting Tuesday, July 2, at Hale House, Lawrence Way, Elizabethtown.

Participants will learn to design a flower arrangement for a standard flower show, a press release said. The meeting begins at 11 a.m., and participants are invited to bring a bag lunch; dessert and coffee will be provided.

Learn lake-friendly landscaping
DRESDEN — Residents living on or near Lake George or Lake Champlain and are concerned about potential harmful runoff are invited to a workshop called Lake Friendly Landscaping at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 11, at Huletts Landing Volunteer Firehouse on Route 6, Dresden.

The speaker will be Emily DeBolt, education and outreach coordinator of the Lake George Association, who will talk about native plants, rain gardens, shoreline buffers, fertilizers and lawn care. She will also discuss simple, low-cost things property owners can do to protect the lakes, a press release said.

The event is sponsored by the Federation of Huletts Association and open to all. For information, call 499-1238.
