---- — Run/Walk to benefit Families Helping Families Fund

PLATTSBURGH — Registration forms for CVPH Medical Center’s 5K Run/Walk planned for 9 a.m. Saturday, May 18, are now available.

Forms can be downloaded at in the “Upcoming Events” section or at the Wellness Center at PARC, 295 New York Road, Plattsburgh. Registration is $15 per person before Saturday, May 11, and $20 after that date. The first 200 to register receives a free gift.

The event benefits the Families Helping Families Fund, held by the Foundation of CVPH. The fund provides essential travel packs to families in emergency situations at CVPH who need to be transferred to other facilities for care.

Registration on race day is from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. The event begins and ends at the Wellness Center. The 3.1-mile trek takes walker/runners through PARC.

The CVPH 5K Run/Walk is sponsored to Pepsi Bottling Company of Keeseville, CV-TEC, the Foundation of CVPH, and Wellness Center at PARC.

Living Healthy workshops offered

PERU — A six-week Living Healthy workshop is planned at 2 p.m. Wednesdays starting May 8 in the Community Room at Apple Valley Senior Housing, 1 Apple Valley Drive.

The free six-session education program for people with any type of ongoing health condition helps enhance one’s skills and ability to manage their health and maintain an active and fulfilling lifestyle. Participants must attend week one or two to complete weeks three through six.

AMC offering Diabetes Self Management class

SARANAC LAKE — Adirondack Medical Center will offer its six-week comprehensive Diabetes Self Management Education Program starting Wednesday, May 8.

Included in the sessions is valuable information on nutrition, exercise, medications and prevention of acute chronic complications.

The group — taught by an interdisciplinary team of four physicians, a pharmacist, registered nurses, dietitian/certified diabetes educator, physical therapist and registered nurse/certified diabetes educator — will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on consecutive Wednesdays through June 12.

A physician referral is needed for insurance and Medicare or Medicaid coverage. Scholarships are available through the Adirondack Health Foundation. Call 897-2611 with questions or to register.


Walk of Hope coming up May 15

PLATTSBURGH — The second-annual Walk of Hope and Spring Festival, which raises funds and awareness for neurodegenerative diseases, is set for 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 25, at Trinity Park.

Hosted by the ALS Raising Hope Foundation, funds raised will benefit research at MassGeneral Institute for Neurodegenerative Disease.

Check-in starts at 8 a.m. The walk is at 9:30 a.m., followed by the Spring Festival from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fun activities, food and live music will be provided.

Last year’s walk raised more than $94,000, and this year, organizers are hoping to raise $100,000.
