---- — Blood drive set for Thursday

LAKE PLACID — The Kiwanis Club of Lake Placid is partnering with the American Red Cross for a “Communities That Care” blood drive in memory of Bobby Preston from noon to 6 p.m. Thursday at High Peaks Resort at 2384 Saranac Avenue in Lake Placid.

Preston died after being severely injured in an accident while he was working.

“The Red Cross encourages eligible donors to celebrate Bobby’s life and service by donating blood,” a press release said. “The Red Cross urgently needs donations to ensure an adequate blood supply is available for patients all summer long,” the release said.

“Each day, the American Red Cross New York-Penn Blood Region needs approximately 1,200 donors to step forward and give blood. Eligible donors with types O negative, B negative and A negative blood are especially encouraged to give. Type O negative is the universal blood type and can be transfused to anyone who needs blood.”

As a special thank you, all donors at Thursday’s blood drive will receive a free T-shirt and will receive a coupon for $2.50 off a 48 oz. container of Turkey Hill’s All Natural Ice Cream.

Walk-ins are welcome, but donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment by calling (800) RED-CROSS or by visiting redcrossblood.org.
