Learn about health care at workshops

MALONE — The North Country Chamber of Commerce and its partner chambers in Franklin and Essex counties are offering free workshops called “What You Need to Know about Changes in Health Insurance.”

Each workshop will feature a presentation on the Affordable Health Care Act and the new state health-insurance exchange by the Adirondack Health Institute, and a review of the plans and choices available for 2014 by a licensed health-insurance specialist from the Plattsburgh-North Country Service Corp., the North Country Chamber’s health-insurance service.

The workshops are: 10 a.m. today at the Village of Malone meeting room, 16 Elm St., Malone; 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8, at Schroon Lake Town Hall, Leland Avenue; and 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, at the Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce, 94 Montcalm St., Ticonderoga. 

The workshops are free and open to both employers and individuals. Preregistration is requested for planning purposes by calling 563-1000.

New health facility hosting open house

ESSEX — NEW Health is hosting an opening celebration and community appreciation event at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, at its 2885 Essex Road location.

NEW Health offers comprehensive complementary and alternative health and wellness education and solutions. The public is invited to learn more about the services offered and to explore the facility as well as be entered in a raffle with more than $1,000 in local prizes.

Free yoga classes for teens

PLATTSBURGH — Bridge Street Yoga Place is offering free teen yoga classes from 4 to 5 p.m. every Thursday.

Dentist has Halloween-candy buyback

PLATTSBURGH — Champlain Smiles and Dr. Athena Graves is sponsoring a Halloween candy buyback program at their new location, 212 Tom Miller Road.

Children will receive a special toothbrush and $1 for every pound of candy they bring in. The buyback is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 4 and 5; and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 6 and 7.

Graves will donate an equal amount of money to the Ronald McDonald House in Burlington, Vt. All candy received will be donated to U.S. troops overseas.
