Gastric Bypass Group

meets tonight

PLATTSBURGH -- The Plattsburgh Gastric Bypass surgery support group meeting will be today at 7 p.m. at the United Way Building on the Tom Miller Road. For more information, call Gloria Durivage at 493-3593.

Essex County sets

August clinic schedule

ELIZABETHTOWN -- Well Child Clinics during August conducted by the Essex County Public Health Department will begin on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Ticonderoga Health Center. Another session will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, at Essex County Public Health in Elizabethtown.

An immunization-only clinic is set for 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, at Adirondack Medical Center in Lake Placid. There is no charge up to age 19; with fees set for adult immunizations. No appointment is needed for immunizations, but for information, to make an appointment for a Well Child Clinic or lead screening, call 873-3500.

Visually Impaired

group to meet Aug. 13

PLATTSBURGH -- The monthly meeting of the Adirondack Visually Impaired (AVI) Community will be Wednesday, Aug. 13, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the United Way Building, 45 Tom Miller Rd., Plattsburgh.

The current project under way is creating large-print and braille menus for Arnie's Restaurant. Meetings are open to anyone age 18 and older who has a visual impairment or who are parents of visually impaired children. Participants are invited to bring a lunch and a family member or friend. Those who can't attend due to work, school schedules or for personal reasons may contact Sherri Gonyea at 562-8011 for information about how to enroll online and participate through e-mail.

Forums on developmental-disabilities issues

ELIZABETHTOWN -- A series of forums about the services available to those with developmental disabilities will take place this month. The first is Tuesday, Aug. 12, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the cafeteria at Elizabethtown Public School, 7539 Court Street, Elizabethtown. Another is set for 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, in Goff-Nelson Memorial Library, 41 Lake Street, Tupper Lake.

Last this month will be a session from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, in North Franklin Educational Center, 23 Huskie Lane, Malone. Topics at the sessions, which are sponsored by the Office of Mental Retardation & Developmental Disabilities, Sunmount DDSO and associated provider agencies, include the Residential Initiatives Program, Supported Employment program, self advocacy, environmental modifications, recreation and transition planning for young adults.
