PLATTSBURGH -- The North Country Regional Blood Donor Center is continuing its schedule of community blood drives in May. Today, one is set for noon to 5 p.m. at A. Schonbek, another will take place from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Altona Fire Department and a third is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday at Clinton County Government Center. More drives are: Monday, May 12, at Franklin Academy in Malone, 8:45 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Wednesday, May 14, at Chazy Rural School, 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; Thursday, May 15, at Mooers Fire Department, 5:30 to 8 p.m.; Friday, May 16, Massena Memorial Health Fair, Massena Arena, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Monday, May 19, ACAP, Elizabethtown, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Monday, May 19, Keene Valley Neighborhood House, 3 to 6 p.m.; Tuesday, May 20, Saranac High School, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Wednesday, May 21, Cumberland Head Elementary, 1 to 4 p.m.; Thursday, May 22, Ward Lumber, Jay, 9 a.m. to noon; Friday, May 23, West Chazy Post Office, 9 a.m. to noon; Tuesday, May 27, Morrisonville Ambulance Service, 5 to 8 p.m.; Thursday, May 29, Canton Potsdam Hospital, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Friday, May 30, Salmon River High School, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The North Country Regional Blood Donor Center is closed Monday, May 26, for Memorial Day. Regular hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Walk-in donors are encouraged. For information, call 562-7406.
Cancer session open to patients, families, professionals
PLATTSBURGH -- "Getting the Best Cancer Care at Any Age" is an educational program intended to introduce tools to patients, caregivers and health-care professionals that help to identify an older patient's capacity to benefit from and tolerate cancer treatment. The program is set for 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, at the Burgundy Room by Irises, located at Airport Plaza, 770 Route 3, Plattsburgh. Put on by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in conjunction with the Fitzpatrick Cancer Center, the free educational dinner program will feature as speaker Kathryn Bracero, RN, OCN from CVPH and the Fitzpatrick Cancer Center.
Cancer patients 55 years of age or older and any adult family members or caregivers are invited to attend. In addition, oncology health professionals are welcome. Pre-register by Friday by calling Raechel Hunt, RN, at 438-3583 or by e-mail: Raechel.Hunt @LLS.org.
