Elmore SPCA holding Adoption Day today

PLATTSBURGH — The Elmore SPCA will be having a special adoption for rescued cats and dogs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at PetSmart on Route 3.

Elmore has seen an increase of pregnant dogs and cats being surrendered by their owners and has a real need for larger indoor kennels big enough for a nursing shepherd and five to 10 puppies. Donors recently purchased two of these large kennels for pregnant dogs.

A special fund has been established by a volunteer who lost her service dog, Abby. Abby was a rescued shepherd mix from a high kill shelter in North Carolina. She was emaciated at 20 pounds and pregnant with 10 puppies when she arrived at Elmore. Donations to “Abby’s Fund” will help with indoor and outdoor kennel needs of the dogs and cats at the shelter.

The shelter is also looking for donations of Revolution or Frontline Plus for cats and dogs. A discount coupon is available on its website,

Those interested in adopting a pet should visit the shelter’s “Adoption” section on its website. Adoption applications are available online. For more information, call 643-2451 or visit the shelter from noon to 4 p.m. weekdays or 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
