PLATTSBURGH — Families can visit the Easter Bunny and get a photo with him at Champlain Centre Mall throughout the month of March.
Hours are: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 16; noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 17; noon to 8 p.m. Monday, March 18, through Thursday, March 21; 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, March 22; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 23; 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 24; 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, March 25, through Thursday, March 28; and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, March 29, through Saturday, March 30.
As well, from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, March 24, children can join the Easter Bunny for the mall’s first-ever “Eggs-ordinary Easter Party” in front of JCPenney. The Champlain Valley Transportation Museum will provide crafts, games, face-painting, music and more.
New playgroup planned in Essex County
ELIZABETHTOWN — The Child Care Coordinating Council of the North Country in collaboration with Families First in Essex County is beginning a new social-learning playgroup.
The group, which is for children ages birth to 5 years old and their caregivers, will be held at Families First, 196 Water St. in Elizabethtown, from 10 a.m. to noon Thursdays, starting March 14.
The group offers an opportunity for parents of small children to come together in a safe, kid-friendly environment to interact with their children and other families in the community.
Families will participate in age-appropriate free play, facilitated circle time, crafts, games, a healthy snack and more. Developmental screenings will be offered on a monthly basis. Resources will be available on a weekly basis that can connect each family to local community agencies and partners, if needed.

Museum hosts local author for family program
PLATTSBURGH — The War of 1812 Museum will host local author Kate Messner from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 16, for an afternoon of history and mystery and family-friendly activities.
Messner’s latest novel, “Capture the Flag,” will be the focal point of her visit to the museum at 31 Washington Road. The book tells the story of three kids who get caught up in an adventure of historic proportions.
A selection of Messner’s books will be available for sale in the museum gift shop the day of the event, and she will be signing books at the close of her program.
