---- — Church harvest dinner coming up

WILLSBORO — St. Philip of Jesus Church at 3748 Main St. will hold a harvest dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18.

Takeouts start at 4:30 p.m. by calling 963-4524.

The menu includes turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, squash, rolls, green beans and a variety of desserts. 

The cost is $9 for adults, $4.50 for children ages 6 to 12 and free for children 5 and under. There will also be a 50/50 raffle and basket of cheer raffle. Proceeds go to the church.

UUF committee showing political presentation

PLATTSBURGH — The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship’s Adult Education Committee will be presenting one more Bill Moyers & Company interview at 7 tonight at 4 Palmer St.

The presentation on the topic of “Changing Politics” will include Sen. Bernie Sanders as one of those interviewed as well as Jill Stein and Cheri Honkala of the Green Party.

The event is free and open to the public.

Public invited to discuss controversial film on Muhammad

PLATTSBURGH — The Asian Studies Committee at SUNY Plattsburgh is hosting an Asia Update forum from 5 to 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16 in the Alumni Conference Room, Angell College Center.

Students, faculty and community members are invited to discuss the controversial film portraying Islamic Prophet Muhammad, which has inspired protest against American embassies across the Middle East.

Dr. Taher Zandi, a SUNY distinguished service professor of psychology, will present “Understanding the Reaction to the Mock-up Video of Prophet Muhammad.” He will give his insight on why the film has caused such strong reactions.

Dr. Jin Kim, communication professor, will discuss the difficulties with legally defining the film as “hate speech” during a presentation titled “The Innocence of Muslims: When ‘Protected Expressive Disorder’ Goes Global.”

105th church chicken and biscuit dinner Sunday

PERU — The Harkness United Methodist Church’s 105th-annual chicken and biscuit dinner, previously known as the “chicken pie supper,” is from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, at the Church Hall, 776 Hallock Hill Road.

Foods served include chicken and biscuits, mashed potatoes, gravy, squash, peas, coleslaw, beverages and cake.

The meal costs $8 for adults, $7 for seniors, $4 for children ages 6 to 12. Preschoolers eat free. Funds raised benefit the church.

Annual harvest dinner at St. Elizabeth’s Sunday

ELIZABETHTOWN — The annual harvest dinner in the Parish Hall of St. Elizabeth’s Church on Route 9 is from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14.

The meal includes roast beef with all the trimmings.

Takeouts will be available starting at 1:30 p.m.

The cost is $9 for adults, $5 for children under 12 and is free for children under 5. All proceeds go to the church.
