Deadline today to RSVP for farewell

PLATTSBURGH — A reception and deluxe buffet will held at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, May 24, in the former MAI gym on Cornelia Street as a thank you and farewell to the Brothers of Christian Instruction, who will be moving back to Alfred, Maine, in September.

Cost is $30 per person. Deadline to RSVP is May 16.

2013 Bishop’s Fund Appeal reaches goal

OGDENSBURG — The Most Reverend Bishop Terry LaValley has announced that contributions from more than 10,400 donors to the 2013 Bishop’s Fund Appeal have pushed the total cash received and pledges promised beyond the $1,275,000 goal.

Currently, 56 parishes have reached the Parish Bishop’s Fund goal and 33 parishes have reached the Parish Participation goal.

Funds raised over the goal will be used to further supplement the Bishop’s Good Samaritan Fund, which provides emergency assistance to families and individuals across the diocese.

House of Prayer offers Ignatian Retreat on May 31

ELLENBURG CENTER — Ignatian Retreat - Discernment of Spirits, Our Lady of the Adirondacks House of Prayer, 7270 Star Road, Ellenburg Center, will host an Ignatian Retreat — Discernment of Spirits from 10 a.m. Saturday, May 31, through 5 p.m. Sunday, June 1.

The time of prayer and learning is based on St. Ignatius of Loyola’s Rules for Discernment.

Suggested donation for the weekend is $60. Rooms are available for overnight stays on a first-come, first-served basis (add $50).
