---- — Sunrise service planned at Wilmington Beach

WILMINGTON — Whiteface Community United Methodist Church is holding an Easter sunrise service at 7 a.m. Sunday at the Wilmington Town Beach on Bowman Lane.

The half-hour service will be followed by a breakfast at the church, which is on the corner of Route 86 and Haselton Road.


Expert to lecture on ‘Restorative Justice’

PLATTSBURGH — Tom Porter, director of the Program in Religion and Conflict Transformation at Boston University School of Theology, will speak at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 4, in the Alumni Conference Room, Angell College Center at Plattsburgh State.

Delivering the 2013 Karl Cron Community Lecture, Porter will speak on “Restorative Justice” as a response to mass incarceration, retributive justice and retributive theology. A trial lawyer, minister in the United Methodist Church and Journal of Law and Religion Board member, Porter’s work on restorative justice and conflict resolution has included collaborative publication of three books on the topic and active service in conflict resolution of legal and other issues. His education includes degrees from Yale University, Union Theological Seminary and Boston University Law School.

Wesleyan Church hosting ‘Egg Hunt, Fun Day’ Saturday

PLATTSBURGH —Turnpike Wesleyan Church is hosting a “Celebrate the Son Egg Hunt and Carnival-Style Fun Day” on Saturday, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

The day’s events will start with the egg hunt and continue with various activities — such as egg coloring, basket decorating, flower painting, donkey-petting zoo, rides, face painting, carnival games and a bounce house — throughout the church grounds. Hot dogs, drinks, cotton candy and popcorn will also be available.

The event is free and open to the public and is particularly geared toward families with children up to sixth grade. Activities will take place regardless of weather and will be moved indoors if necessary.
