Bishop to deliver proclamation for Ogdensburg diocese
OGDENSBURG — Bishop Terry R. LaValley will proclaim the Mutually Shared Vision for the Diocese of Ogdensburg during the 2014 Chrism Mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral at 11 a.m. April 9.
The proclamation offers the five-year vision with three priorities and six goals for every parish, ministry and institution in the diocese, a press release states.
All priests, religious, deacons and lay Catholics of the diocese are invited to attend the Mass.
At the Chrism Mass, two representatives from each of the 97 parishes in the diocese will receive a framed proclamation containing the goals and priorities that have been established for the next two years.
The Chrism Mass will also feature the traditional blessing of oils for the celebration of sacraments during the coming year.
A light reception will follow the Mass in the Bishop Brzana Memorial Hall in the lower cathedral.
First Assembly of God to host missionaries
PLATTSBURGH — Missionaries Steve and Jill McCarthy will be at the 10:30 a.m. service at First Assembly of God on Sunday, April 6.
The McCarthys, serving as missionaries in Uruguay, were involved in teaching and training pastors at the Bible school, part of a team that planted three new churches in unreached parts of the country, and used soccer as a tool of evangelism to reach the people, a press release states.

Centenary United Methodist Church offers ‘Spirit of Music’
MALONE — The Franklin District Order of the Eastern Star will host “The Spirit of Music,” an afternoon of music with organist Ralph Hastings, vocalist C. Sue DeSantis and pianist Janet Tucker at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, April 6, at the Centenary United Methodist Church in Malone.
The program will feature inspirational, patriotic and music of celebration. Refreshments will be served following the program.
A suggested donation of $5 will benefit Franklin District and Barnabas House, a homeless shelter in Malone.
Rising Light Sangha plans Buddhist Retreat tomorrow
SARANAC LAKE — A Buddhist Retreat with Joel Baehr is slated for 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at 154 Margaret St. in Saranac Lake, hosted by the Rising Light Sangha.
There will be a potluck lunch.
