Three grants to augment Mercy Care services
LAKE PLACID -- Mercy Care of the Adirondacks has won three new grants to enhance its services to elders living in their homes and independent living communities in the Tri-Lakes area. Mercy Care, founded in 2007, extends friendship, spiritual care, health education and counseling to older adults through a Friendship Volunteer Program, Faith Community Volunteer Nurse Program, and an Education and Advocacy Program. Mercy Care recently received a letter the New York State Office for the Aging notifying it of $10,000 Grant-in-Aid funding to provide new or expanded services for senior citizens. Special thanks go to state Sen. Betty Little, says a press release from Mercy Care. With gratitude to Assemblywoman Teresa Sayward, continues the release, Mercy Care has been notified by the New York State Department of Health of a $5,000 grant from the New York State Legislature to support community outreach and raise awareness about elders' needs. And a $4,500 seed grant from United Way of Clinton and Essex Counties Inc. will help create and implement programs of friendship/companionship and faith community nursing for elders living at home.
