Forum to address Community for All Ages'
PAUL SMITHS -- An educational forum will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, June 27, in the Stirling Tomkins Pine Room, Joan Weill Student Center at Paul Smith's College, Paul Smiths (parking area 8 or 6).
The speaker, Nancy A. Henkin, Ph.D., will present "Communities for All Ages," an approach to community planning that takes into account the entire lifespan perspective -- the well-being of children, youth, adults, and elders -- viewing neighborhoods and communities as a whole, rather than focusing on the needs of one particular age group. Henkin is the founder and executive director of the Center for Intergenerational Learning at
Temple University. She is the co-author of "Connecting Generations, Strengthening Communities: A Toolkit for Intergenerational Program Planners." Community residents of all ages are invited to attend: representatives that work with older adults, children and youth, families; health-care providers, educators, local government representatives, community planners, clergy and religious persons and local civic and cultural organizations.
Pre-registration is required by Monday, June 23. Reserve a place by e-mail to: sschneck@adkmercy.org or call Sheila at 523-5583. There is no fee to attend the educational forum, which is sponsored by Mercy Care for the Adirondacks.
