Authors to sign books in Lake Placid today

LAKE PLACID — The Bookstore Plus at 2491 Main St. is hosting authors Laurie Burgdorff and Larry Weill from 3 to 5 p.m. today.

Burgdorff will be signing copies of her children’s picture book, “Lewis the Lamb,” which is set at North Country School. Weill will be signing his newest book, “Adirondack Trail of Gold.”

Homeschool Day Sept. 6 at Fort Ticonderoga

TICONDEROGA — Fort Ticonderoga’s next Homeschool Day for homeschooled students and their parents is from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6.

Homeschool families will have an opportunity to take part in a series of programs while learning about life on the colonial frontier during the early days of the French and Indian War, centuries of horticulture history and historic trades.

Additional self-guided activities will highlight the fort’s world-known museum collections and include exploration in the 6-acre corn maze. 

To register, call Nancy LaVallie, group tour coordinator, at 585-2821. The cost is $6 per student. One parent per family is admitted free of charge. Additional adults pay the adult group rate of $12. Shriners circus coming to fairgrounds 

PLATTSBURGH — The Oriental Shriners are bringing their 2013 circus to the Clinton County Fairgrounds on Route 22B Sunday, Sept. 8.

Performance times are at 1 and 5 p.m. 

Two children under the age of 12 are admitted for free with each paid adult ticket. Adult tickets are $12 each, and can be purchased at the ticket office on the day of the show or online at www.ticketweb.com.

Babbie Rural and Learning Museum hosting Kids’ Fair 

PERU — The third-annual Kids’ Fair and Festival at the Babbie Rural and Learning Museum is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 7 and 8.
