NCCCA offering help for contest
PLATTSBURGH — The North Country Cultural Center for the Arts is offering a new class for students in kindergarten through third grade who are interested in creating an entry for the annual PBS Kids Go! writers’ contest.
The monthlong class — which will meet from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, Feb. 4 through 27 — fosters literacy and artistic development as students write and illustrate an original story. No classes will be held the week of Feb. 18 due to winter vacation.
Amanda Kaufman will help students work through the process of creating their own characters and plot, writing the story and then designing the book and its images. By the end of the program, students will have a complete entry for the contest, which is due March 8.
The fee for the class is $65 for non-members or $60 for members of the NCCCA and includes the cost of instruction and all materials.
Additional information about the contest can be found on Mountain Lake’s website, www.mountainlake.org.
