Carillon Garden Club to meet March 20

HAGUE — The Carillon Garden Club will hold its first meeting of the year at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 20, at the Hague Community Center on Route 8.

Members and guests will come together for coffee prior to the business meeting.

The public is welcome to attend the program that will start at 11:15 a.m. Linda Gillilland, a Master Gardener and Cornell Cooperative Extension educator, will present a program on “The Benefits of Pruning.” The topic will include how to prune, when to prune, reasons to prune and the proper tools necessary to use in pruning.

Following the program, participants will enjoy their “bring-your-own” lunches. Beverages and desserts will be provided. Hostesses for the day will be Judy Gourley, Jackie Viestenz and Susan Darrin.

The next regular meeting of the club will be April 17 when club member, Diane O’Connor, a Master Gardener, will be speaking on rain barrels. The public is welcome.

Nature Fund grant details announced

ESSEX — The Essex County Adirondack Garden Club is accepting applications for the Ellen Lea Paine Memorial Nature Fund.

Established in 2005, the goal of the fund is to provide financial assistance to students, individuals or nonprofit organizations involved in programs to study and protect the natural environment, a press release states.

The fund is limited to projects that will have an impact within the Essex County area of the Adirondack Park. 

Sample projects include doing fieldwork, research or classroom work in the environmental field that will foster the conservation and preservation of the natural environment for future generations. Up to four projects may be funded annually, with the maximum grant amount of $1,000.
