By ROUSES POINT — The North Country Skating Club presents “The Wonderful World of Skating” in its 35th-annual Ice Skating Show this weekend at the Rouses Point Civic Center Arena.
“You can figure out that it’s Disney themed,” said Kim Bosley, the club’s board president.
“We have 87 skaters. Every single skater in our club is part of our show. We separated them into 10 groups based on skill level. They will all do a group number, and there will also be our soloists. We have our pre-show soloists, those skaters who have not tested with the U.S. Figure Skating Association.”
The club’s skating program is sanctioned by the association.
“The skaters in the show have received a certain level of testing,” Bosley said. “Julie Foster is our head coach, a certified USFGA coach. She’s choreographed the finale with all 87 skaters participating. They will be on the ice at the same time.”
The club is open to skaters age 3 to 18.
“The costumes this year are gorgeous,” Bosley said. “We went with more skater-type dress. Our youngest this year is 4. It’s about showcasing their talent.
“It’s turned out really nice this year.”
Volunteers make the ice magic happen.
“We’re not a big group but we’re sure an amazing team,” Bosley said. “With the support of the businesses around the area, we’ve been able to do some pretty awesome things this year. We have a new board. We are nervous but we’re excited about what we have been able to do this far with the help of local businesses.”
The club is a nonprofit.
“The children are worth it,” Bosley said. “The folks at the Civic Center are amazing. We have children from Mooers, Rouses Point and Champlain. We have children that come from Vermont, and we have a couple of girls come from Canada. We’ve increased our membership this year from last year.”
