25 YEARS AGO — 1987

The federal government is now covering the cost of half of the improvements to the Durkee Street parking lot—leaving the remaining $115,000 to tax payers.

The construction of the $3.26 million addition to the Franklin County courthouse in Malone — originally scheduled for this summer — has been delayed for another two years and will instead begin in August 1989.

Frank Dell-Amore, 1975 graduate of Plattsburgh State, has officially launched a new business in selling his family pasta sauce — called Filomena’s after his 93-year-old Italian grandmother.

The Rouses Point village board has hired Duflo Aeropray Systems Inc. to do three aerial applications of pesticides over the village to kill black flies and mosquitoes this summer. The three applications will cost the village $4,500.

50 YEARS AGO — 1962

24-year-old Robert St. Clair suffered facial burns while lighting a pizza oven at the Roman Gardens in the Plattsburgh Plaza, causing the accumulation of gas to explode. St. Clair was sent to the Physicians Hospital and is in fair condition.

Saranac Lake’s paper, The Adirondack Daily Enterprise, has cut down to a five-day-a-week publication, and will be dropping it’s usually Saturday paper effective the end of this week.

A fire sparked by an electric fence destroyed a barn on the Wilfred Gonyea farm on Route 22, causing an estimated $1,500 damage.

Schuyler Falls’s new town hall should be completed within the next two weeks, construction started late last fall, but has been interrupted by bad weather on a number of occasions.

75 YEARS AGO — 1937

James McGinnis of Glens Falls shot and killed a 45-pound mossback turtle in Lake Cossayuna, the turtle was one of the largest seen in this section of the state.

Malone mathematicians have calculated that the villages expenditures in the past two years — totaling $326,756.06 — lined up in one dollar bills placed end to end would cover the half-mile Malone fair grounds race track 82 times.
