Lookback: Aug. 27-Sept. 2

100 YEARS – 1912

Lake Champlain is becoming more and more a favorite resort of summer vacationers from Albany and vicinity. It has quite a colony of Albanians, many of whom have summer homes here, and many others who stay at Lake Champlain hotels and boarding houses.

The body of Ethiel Wilcox of Pelhan, N.Y., was found in the Saranac River, below the High Falls near Redford, about 20 miles west of Plattsburgh about 4 p.m. Saturday. Wilcox, who was about 25 years of age, was visiting High Falls and attempted to climb around the ledge and disappeared from view. It was thought at first that she was hiding and later believed that she was lost in the woods.

Gerta Simonson of New York City, accompanied by Eanar Lindeblad of Montreal, went to Dannemora to visit their countryman, Foulke E. Brandt, the former valet of Mortimer Schiff of New York City, who was sentenced to a term of 30 years at Dannemora on a charge of burglary. Simonson and Lindeblad went from here on the noon train and were received by Warden Kaiser who permitted them to speak with Brandt for a few minutes, just long enough to exchange greetings.
