Newsmakers: Aug. 28, 2012

Maegan Boulerice Cabrera, daughter of Gary and Jan Boulerice of Champlain, has received her Doctor of Medicine degree from SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse. She is a graduate of Northeastern Clinton Central High School in Champlain and received a Bachelor of Science degree in physiology from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. She is a resident in family medicine at Albany Medical Center in Albany.

Essex County Undersheriff Michael Badger attended a training conference at the Gideon Putnam Hotel in Saratoga Springs. Sponsored and organized by the New York State Sheriffs Association and the New York State Sheriffs Association Institute, the program provides undersheriffs with training in the latest advances in law enforcement and correctional practices and a forum to discuss current law enforcement issues and share best practices.

Adirondack Community Action Programs Inc. Executive Director Alan Jones has been elected president of the New York State Community Action Agency Board. The board brings together community action professionals from all parts of the state to support the work of community action agencies. The appointment was made official at the annual conference held in Rochester in June.

Dr. Daniel R. Lefebvre , formerly of Tupper Lake, graduated from a Fellowship in Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary of Harvard Medical School in June. He will be practicing his profession at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary along with being a member of the Harvard Medical School faculty. Lefebvre did his undergraduate work at Boston University. Next he attended and graduated from SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse and then completed a one-year residency at Thomas Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia in general surgery. Lefebvre then decided to change his career path from general surgery to ophthalmic surgery. He accepted a resident position at Nassau County Hospital and Stony Brook University Hospital on Long Island. Following his residency, he was accepted into a fellowship program at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary of Harvard Medical School. Lefebvre and his wife, Dr. Isabelle Zamfirescu, an endocrinologist, reside with their twin daughters, Brooke and Noelle, in Quincy, Mass. Lefebvre is the son of Kathleen and Dean Lefebvre of Tupper Lake.
