A Best Buy at 15 Scholarship has been awarded to Meghan Ryan, a Plattsburgh High School student. Ryan is the daughter of Gregory and Judy Ryan and plans to attend Plattsburgh State next fall. Scholarship recipients were selected based on academic achievement, community involvement, and/or work experience.

Karalyn Aprill of Black Brook, daughter of Dennis and Kathy Aprill, graduated summa cum laude from the Crane School of Music, SUNY Potsdam, with a Bachelor of Music degree in music education. She also received a saxophone performance certificate. Aprill was in the honors program all four years at the school. She will attend the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, in the fall, enrolled in the master of music program.

Aprill graduated from AuSable Valley Central School in 2005.

Kevin O'Connell, son of Terry and Louise O'Connell of Cadyville, is a student at SUNY Canton, and has achieved a 3.7 GPA for the spring semester. He received an associates degree in criminal justice in the spring of 2008 and is pursuing a bachelor's degree in criminal investigations and will graduate in May 2010. O'Connell is also a member of the Canton hockey team where he received the defensive MVP award and finished the season with 19 points.

Kelly Lynn Therrian of Ellenburg Depot, daughter of Michael and Patty Therrian, graduated from Buffalo State University College with a comprehensive master's degree in nutrition.

Dr. Lindsay Elizabeth Davison, daughter of Donald and Diane Davison, graduated from Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. At the Hooding and Awards Ceremony Lindsay received the Eli Lilly & Company Achievement Award "given to a student who has achieved scholastic success and manifested exceptional qualities of leadership and professional attitude."

Throughout the six-year program Davison sustained a Dean's List Scholarship and was involved in Student Government Association (offices held: class president, vice-president, publicity chair), Student Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists, Service Club, Colleges Against Cancer, Residence Life and was named to the Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Highlights included selection as the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists 2007 Paul G. Cano Legislative and Regulatory Internship at the society's headquarters in Alexandria, Va., induction as a first professional year student into the National Leadership Society, Phi Lambda Sigma and national awards of National Most Improved Chapter, National Professionalism Award, and National Policy and Legislative Award with the American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists.

Davison is a 2003 graduate of Plattsburgh Senior High School. She will now begin a two-year regulatory pharmaceutical fellowship.

Nicole Prenoveau of Plattsburgh has been accepted into SUNY Plattsburgh's counselor education program and has been granted a graduate assistanceship. She was named to the dean's list and graduated from the college this spring.

Katelynd Clark of Malone is one of 24 Cazenovia college students selected to study at Canterbury Christ Church University in the United Kingdom during the fall semester of 2009. Clark is working toward a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, majoring in interior design. Clark is a graduate of Franklin Academy High School in Malone.

The Champlain Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution sponsors two national essay contests every year. In the "Celebrate American History" contest the local winner is Nicklas Makowski, an eighth-grade social-studies student of Jennifer Daniel's honors class at AuSable Valley Middle School. He received the bronze medal, and his essay was forwarded on to the next level of competition. Mark Chauvin, Alexander Connor, Annie Helfgott, Emylee Lincoln and Jacob Montefusco also had their essays submitted to the local contest by Daniels.

The following students passed with marks of commended, highly commended and/or honors in Cecchetti Ballet exams. They are: Marne Timon, Sara Mazdzer, Kate Mazdzer, Korinne Stay, Una Creedon-Carey, Jennifer Dufrey, Katherine Hausrath, Lauren Grant, Teagan Plimpton, Molly Schneider-Ferrari, Katelyn Stetz, Madison Cleveland, Sarah Edwards, Anna Fisher and Deryn Makowski.

Eric Miller, son of John and Jill Miller of Peru, was named to the Spring 2009 Dean's List at SUNY Oneonta. He graduated from Peru Central High School in 2006.

Nicholas Fesette, son of Mary Leonard of Plattsburgh and Daniel Fesette of Chazy, and a senior majoring in theater at Hamilton College, was awarded The Carter Family Prize Scholarship, The Calvin Leslie Lewis Prize Scholarship in the Dramatic Arts and The Senior Prize in Theatre at Hamilton College's annual Class and Charter Day.

The Carter Family Prize Scholarship was established by Diane Carter Maleson, in memory of her parents, Gerald and Camille Carter, and her sister and niece, Joan and Christine Scholes. It is awarded to a student who excels in the visual or performing arts, who is a talented writer and who maintains a minimum average of 85.

The Calvin Leslie Lewis Dramatic Arts Scholarship is awarded to students, preferably juniors who have demonstrated an interest and ability in oral communication in its broadest aspects and who have successfully participated in the dramatic arts. Fesette is a graduate of Beekmantown High School.

The following local residents were among the 1,429 SUNY Cortland students who were awarded their baccalaureate degrees at commencement ceremonies. Katie Lynn Allen of Champlain, Nicholas Richard Arnold of Peru, Jamie L. Duprey of Saranac Lake, Aaron Hunter Hutchins and Colby James Pulsifer, both of Lewis, Nicholas James Longino of Malone and John Harrington Morris of Elizabethtown, received Bachelor of Science degrees.

Kristina Ann Marie Castine of Plattsburgh and Ashley Ann Tarbell of Hogansburg received Bachelor of Arts degrees.

Janeen Jesse Hulbert graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree from SUNY Cortland. Students graduating summa cum laude earned a cumulative academic quality-point average of 3.75 and above on a scale of 4.0.

Nicholas A. Sherman, a 2005 graduate of Seton Catholic, has graduated with honors from the University of New Hampshire with a Bachelor of Science degree in pre-veterinary medicine. He is the son of Greg and Deb Sherman and the grandson of Jack and Joan Jarvis and Betty Sherman, all of Plattsburgh.

Chloe A. LaFrance of Lewis and Michael E. O'Connor of Rouses Point have been elected to St. Lawrence University's chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the national academic honor society.

LaFrance is a graduate of Elizabethtown-Lewis Central School, and a recent graduate of St. Lawrence, magna cum laude, where she majored in English and psychology. Being a resident assistant, a college assistant, Omicron Delta Kappa Honorary and Psi Chi were among the activities that LaFrance participated in on campus.

O'Connor, a graduate of Northeastern Clinton Central School, also graduated from St. Lawrence, magna cum laude, where he majored in geology. He was a participant in the Geology Club and Sigma Gamma Epsilon.

The following students were among the 494 students who received a degree at St. Lawrence University's commencement ceremony in Canton: Kristen R. Henry of Chazy, a graduate of Chazy Central Rural School, magna cum laude, in history, minor in educational teaching; Rebecca J. LaPier of West Chazy, a graduate of Beekmantown High School, cum laude, in English and anthropology; Erin L. Rasco of Cadyville, a graduate of Saranac Central High School, cum laude, in neuroscience, minored in sports studies and exercise science; Kaitlyn H. Yeyell of Saranac Lake, a graduate of Saranac Lake High School, in performance and communications arts; Joshua K. Tyler of Vermontville, a graduate of Northfield-Mount Hermon School, in government, minor in sports studies and exercise science; Karen E. Wilcox of Ellenburg Depot, a graduate of Northern Adirondack Central School, Ellenburg Depot, in English and biology.

Plattsburgh resident Allison Warmuth was named to the Dean's List for the 2009 spring semester at Messiagh College. Warmuth is a senior majoring in business administration. Dean's List is earned by receiving a 3.6 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale.

The following local students were inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society at Plattsburgh State: Michelle Haynes, Kathleen Trombley and Brandon Light of Plattsburgh, Christine Miles, of Malone, and Bonnie Philip of Ticonderoga.

In order to receive this honor, individuals must have shown exemplary character, work ethic, leadership and involvement on and off campus.

Keeseville native Joshua Pray, an English-Literature major at Lycoming College was named to the Dean's List for the 2009 spring semester. To make the Dean's List, a student must attend school full time and earn a GPA of 3.5 or higher for the semester.

Ana Luderowski, the daughter of Muriel and Nils Luderowski of Keene, has graduated from Concord Academy in Concord, Mass.

Elizabeth Lawrence, daughter of Belinda Fuller of Bell Road and Robert Lawrence of Main Street, in Peru, has been named to the Spring 2009 Dean's List at St. John Fisher College in Rochester. Lawrence, a freshman, is a childhood/special education major. To be eligible for the Dean's List, a student must have attained at least a 3.5 GPA for the semester.

Local residents named to dean's list at Saint Michael's college are: Nicholas R. Bruno, son of Kris and Kim Bruno of Peru, a May graduate mathematics major, who graduated from Peru Jr.-Sr. High School; Mary K. Farnsworth, daughter of David and Dianne Farnsworth of Morrisonville, a sophomore exploratory major, who graduated from Saranac Central Senior High School; Lisa A. Jabaut, daughter of James Jabaut of Plattsburgh, a May graduate psychology major, who graduated from Peru Jr.-Sr. High School; Gabrielle B. Knight, daughter of George and Maddalena Knight of Peru, a sophomore exploratory major, who graduated from Peru Jr.-Sr. High School; Reinhart T. Meisenheimer, son of Earl and Sally Meisenheimer of Plattsburgh, a first-year biology major, who graduated from Seton Catholic Central High School; Ian E. Myers, son of Cyrus Myers of Plattsburgh, a May graduate biology major, who graduated from Beekmantown Central School; Brett C. Peryer, son of Jon Peryer of West Chazy, a May graduate political science major, who graduated from National Sports Academy, Lake Placid; Zachary S. Pratt, son of Steven and Karen Pratt of Ticonderoga, a senior computer science major, who graduated from Ticonderoga High School; Stephanie E. Sayward, daughter of Richard and Sarah Sayward of Willsboro, a senior biology major, who graduated from Willsboro Central High School.

Students who complete a minimum of 12 credits and achieve a GPA of at least 3.4 during a semester are included on the Dean's List.

Geoffrey S. Carpenter of Plattsburgh has graduated from Paul Smiths College with a degree in urban tree management. Carpenter was named to the Dean's List fall and spring semesters.

Madeline Ware, daughter of Bruce and Carolyn Ware of Westport, received a Bachelor of Arts degree in anthropology/archaeology and classical studies from Hamilton College in Clinton.

The Auxiliary of CVPH Medical Center has awarded 9, $1,000 scholarships to graduates of Clinton County High Schools. The awards were announced at the school's graduation ceremonies. Auxiliary scholarship winners are attending college in pursuit of a health-care-related degree. Scholarships were awarded to Bethany Trombley, Beekmantown Central School; Annette Liem, Plattsburgh High School; Kara Hackett, Peru Central School; Kelsey Tourville, Northern Adirondack Central School; Lindsey Seymour, Chazy Central School; Brenton Murphy, AuSable Valley Central School; Hannah Charland, Saranac Central School; Jennifer Bechard, Northeastern Clinton Central School; and Jordan Hart, Seton Catholic Central.
