Kathleen Muldowny Woodward has been named to the Dean's List for the spring semester 2008 at Plattsburgh State. She is a 2004 graduate of Northeastern Clinton Central School and is the daughter of Kathy and Frank Woodward of Plattsburgh. Woodward participated in the National Student Exchange Program through Plattsburgh State during the fall 2007 semester at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Woodward attended college in Hawaii during her first two years of college before transferring to Plattsburgh. She is an education major with a minor in social science.
Peter C. McGoldrick of Westport presented the results of his original research at the Hudson River Undergraduate Mathematics Conference hosted by St. Lawrence University in Canton. McGoldrick, a senior at St. Lawrence and a graduate of Westport Central School, gave a presentation, "Thinking Outside the Box Score." He is a mathematics and fine arts major with a minor in economics. He has also been a member of the men's indoor and outdoor track teams, and studied in Italy, through the university's International and Intercultural Studies Program.
Lisa Wells of Plattsburgh received the New York Association of Continuing and Community Education Student of the Year Award. She was nominated for the award by Judy Montgomery, teacher at CV-TEC, and the award was presented by Assemblywoman Janet L. Duprey.
Amanda Polly Urowsky, granddaughter of Walter and Athelie Lashway of Plattsburgh, has graduated with honors (magna cum laude) from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology. She received the Graduating Senior Award for the Sociology Department. Urowsky is attending the Medical University of South Carolina for a Master in Rehabilitation Sciences degree in the concentration of occupational therapy. She has received the Rowley Scholarship award.
The Adirondack Community Trust (ACT) has announced that Constance Mandeville of Morrisonville, April Yeaney of Jay and Shaunie Cadieux of Plattsburgh are the recipients of the William T. Lowe Scholarships. Each student will receive $1,000.
Constance Mandeville graduated from Peru High School and will study English and history at Hobart and William Smith Colleges this fall. She writes, "Majoring in English means more than just a degree. To me, it will open up a whole new world to literature that I may have never discovered on my own ... My goal is to become a professor after I graduate and I know with a major in English, I will be successful."
April Yeaney attended AuSable Valley Central High School and will study chemistry and education at Wellesley College this fall and plans to pursue a career in science education. "Contemplating careers, I have realized that the sciences and education are what I truly want to pursue. As others have helped me to understand through science, I, too, want to contribute to scientific knowledge and understanding."
Shaunie Cadiuex attended Plattsburgh High School and will attend St. Lawrence University and plans to major in English literature and writing. Shaunie writes, "Used effectively, words bridge gaps of culture, religion and background -- they are a huge part of what shapes the world we live in ... That being said, I can think of no other area I would rather devote my life to than English."
Kevin Stacey II has been named to the Dean's List at Plattsburgh State.
