MALONE -- Franklin County is looking for another public-transportation coordinator now that the current one has decided to leave after six months.

Franklin County Public Transportation Coordinator Robert Bayruns tendered his resignation, effective July 2, County Manager James Feeley said Thursday.

Bayruns could not be reached for comment, but Feeley said, "He has taken another position."

Hired on Dec. 17, the Saranac Lake man announced this week that the newest public-transportation bus route would be launched on Monday. Passengers will now be able to ride from Malone to Lake Placid during morning, afternoon and evening runs.

Bayruns, who was paid an annual salary of $33,969, replaced Nancy Robert, who left the position to take a similar job with the St. Lawrence County Planning Office.

Feeley said the county has a pool of qualified applicants for the position from the last round of hiring. Those candidates were contacted by e-mail to gauge their interest in the soon-to-be-vacant position.

Also, any other qualified person interested in applying for the job is encouraged to do so with the Personnel Office.

A provisional appointment will be made, but, since it is a Civil Service position, the person chosen would have to pass an examination and score within the top three.

The county has 30 days from the time someone is appointed to make a request to the state for a test to be administered.
