MALONE — Activities, exhibits and displays are all set for the big Franklin County Bicentennial celebration on June 14.

A huge parade through downtown Malone, with more than 100 floats, units and marching groups, kicks off the festivities, which continue all day at the County Fairgrounds until the fireworks show begins at 10 p.m.

Traffic-flow regulations changed the parade route from its usual Webster Street-to-Main Street path. It will now start at Pearl Street in the center of downtown and proceed east to the fairgrounds, where participants will make one lap around the track past the grandstand before the opening ceremonies and other bicentennial events begin.

The free, day-long event also features historical re-enactors, a Beatles tribute and tours of local venues important to Franklin County’s history.

Franklin County was founded on March 11, 1808.

schedule of events:

9:30 a.m.: Puppetry workshop by Open Hand Theater, Arsenal Green.

10 a.m.: Re-enactor camps open, fairgrounds; memorial butterfly release by Hospice of the North Country, Arsenal Green; tours of Webster Street Cemetery begin; history tour of First Congregational Church at Clay and Main streets, including underground-railroad tunnel and stained-glass windows.

11 a.m.: Bicentennial parade down from Pearl Street to the fairgrounds.

Noon to 4 p.m.: Commemorative cancellation by the U.S. Postal Service, Malone Post Office.

12:30 p.m.: History tour of First Congregational Church at Clay and Main Streets, including underground-railroad tunnel and stained-glass windows.

1 p.m.: Bicentennial ceremony on the main grandstand stage at the fairgrounds following the parade.

12:30 to 6 p.m.: Exhibits and displays from historical groups, civic and community organizations and clubs open.

12:30 to 5 p.m.: Craft and demonstrations, such as sheep shearing, butter making and candle dipping.
