---- — PLATTSBURGH — The Battle of Plattsburgh Commemoration Committee is organizing for the Sept. 14 parade to be held as part of the annual event.

The parade, which will start at 1 p.m. in downtown Plattsburgh, carries the theme: “The Canadian Connection.”

More than 90 units are expected to take part, with many new participants.

“We are hoping several organizations will work on floats to showcase their organizations and the rich history the Adirondack Coast has to offer,” parade Co-Chair Vicki Giroux said in a news release.

They will be joined by lots of music, including Her Majesty’s Royal Marine Band, the Cobourg Legion Pipes and Drums, the Police Pipes and Drums of Plattsburgh, the Spirit of Scotland Pipes and Drums, the Sailing Masters Fife and Drum Corps, the U.S. Navy Band Northeast, the Norwood Firemen’s Band and the RCMP Pipes and Drums.

“This year, we will be awarding certificates for two categories: Best in Show and Best Youth Group,” Giroux said, adding, “The cash prizes totaling $300, which were formerly given to parade participants, will be donated instead to the Honor Flight program supporting World War II veterans.”

There is still plenty of time to register with the Parade Committee, organizers said.

“It is really important that people register so we can be well organized in advance of Sept. 14th,” Co-Chair Diane Brockway said in the release. “At best, getting a parade lined up and moving on time is very hectic. Early registration is a big help.”

The committee has been meeting every two weeks to be sure details are being addressed.
