Adirondack Life announcescontest winners

JAY — Adirondack Life magazine recently named the winners of its annual photography contest, with one overall grand prize and 13 awards in landscape, black and white, recreation, wildlife and editors’ choice categories.

Mark Epstein of Vestal took the grand-prize-winning photograph, “Sunrise over Elk Lake,” in the Town of North Hudson. Epstein’s landscape image is featured on the cover of the March/April 2014 issue of Adirondack Life.

Second place in the landscape category went to Russ Hartung of Morrisonville, with “Sunrise from Silver Lake Mountain.”

The grand-prize winner receives a voucher to attend the Adirondack Photography Institute’s Adirondack Photography Weekend with Adirondack Life in Lake Placid; category winners receive a specially commissioned work of pottery by Sue Young of Jay.

Winning photographs are published in the March/April 2014 issue of the magazine and can be seen at, along with honorable mention photographs.

ROUSES POINT — The 2014 edition of Walker International Events’ Circus, Circus and more Circus has events planned for 5 and 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 14, at the Rouses Point Village Recreation Center on Lake Street.

Artists Guild honors award winners

SARANAC LAKE — The 16th-annual juried competition at the Adirondack Artists Guild opened with a reception March 14 in which award winners were recognized.

First Prize, $200, went to Valerie Patterson for her watercolor “Summer Afternoon.” Catherine Hartung’s watercolor “Patterned Poppies” won second prize, $150. The $100 third-place award was given to Ed Williams for his photograph “Flushed.”

Five gift certificates of $25 each were give to Jim Abendroth for “Cathedral Visions,” George Dirolf for “Homage to C.B.,” Cheryl McFadden for “Breaking Ground,” Arnie Sauther for “Teasel,” and Cris Winters for “October Bog II.”
