NCCCA to host tri-county grant awards celebration

PLATTSBURGH — The North Country Cultural Center for the Arts has announced the second-annual Tri-County Decentralization Grant Awards Ceremony set for 5:30 p.m. May 9 in the Main Gallery of the Art Center, 23 Brinkerhoff St., Plattsburgh.

More than 30 artists and arts organizations from Clinton, Essex, and Franklin counties will be in attendance along with Assemblywoman Janet Duprey and other dignitaries. 

Decentralization is a re-grant program intended to help promote the arts throughout New York.

The ceremony is open to the public and invited guests.

Regional theaters plan ‘Smokey Joe’s Cafe’ auditions

PLATTSBURGH — The Essex Theatre Company and Adirondack Regional Theatre have announced auditions for Leiber & Stoller’s musical revue “Smokey Joe’s Cafe” to be held at Center Stage in Plattsburgh.

Auditions will be at 3 and 7 p.m. Friday, May 23, with callbacks at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 24.

Production dates will be Aug. 1, 2, 3, 7, 8 and 9 at the Masonic Lodge in Essex.

All are welcome at the auditions; you just need to be able to sing and dance.

‘Little Mermaid Jr.’ auditions set

PERU — Adirondack Regional Theatre is seeking 20 young actors for the A.R.T. Director’s Series Musical, Disney’s “The Little Mermaid Jr.” from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 16, and 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 17, in Room 107 of the Peru Elementary School.

All auditioning must ages 8 to 18 by the time of performance. Auditions will consist of singing, dancing and reading from the script.

Those auditioning will prepare a one-minute song to perform a cappella. Bring comfortable clothes and shoes that you can dance in. There will be cold readings from the script.

The musical will be directed by Peru School District student Mason Barber as part of Adirondack Regional Theatre’s Young Director Series. Pam Lavin will serve as musical director.
