---- — Submissions needed for annual art competition
SARANAC LAKE — The Adirondack Artists Guild will hold its 15th-annual art competition from Friday, March 15, to Wednesday, April 17.
The competition is open to all artists, and all media is accepted. Two-dimensional work must not exceed 34 inches in any direction. Three-dimensional work must be of a reasonable size for a small gallery. Work done in a class or under supervision may not be submitted.
Artists interested in entering may pick up a prospectus at the gallery at 52 Main St. in Saranac Lake or download one from the guild’s website, www.adirondackartistsguild.com.
Work should be dropped off at the gallery between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on March 6, 7, 8 or 9. Notification of the juror’s decision will be mailed or emailed by Wednesday, March 13.
An opening reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 15, at the gallery. Prizes will be awarded at 6 p.m. Everyone is welcome ,and refreshments will be served.

for Malone show
MALONE — Foothills ARTSociety is encouraging artists in all media to submit their work for an Open Juried Exhibit at Wead Library, 64 Elm St. here.
Fooothills ARTSociety is especially interested in the work of artists who have not been shown previously. Interested artists may download a prospectus at www.foothillsartsociety.com. Artists may submit one or two works of recent art suitable for hanging.
Artwork and entry forms may be brought to the Library from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 29, and Friday, March 1, or from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 2. The entry fee is $20 for Foothills members or $25 for non-members. Jurying will take place on Monday, March 4.
The opening reception is at the library from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, with awards being presented at 1 p.m. The reception and art show are open to the public. The show will run until Saturday, April 13.

Submit work for Literary Awards
SARANAC LAKE — The Adirondack Center for Writing is looking for submissions of fiction, poetry, children’s literature, memoir, nonfiction and photography published any time in 2012 for its annual Adirondack Literary Awards.
Submissions don’t have to be Adirondack-themed, though they can be. Interested writers who live (even part-time) in the North Country and published this past year should send in two copies for consideration before March 8 to: Adirondack Center for Writing, P.O. Box 956, Saranac Lake, NY 12983. A cover letter with complete contact information and the genre in which you will enter should also be included.
Submissions will be read by a genre-specific panel of judges, and winners will be decided by June. Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at Blue Mountain Center, where the popular People’s Choice Award will also be decided.
