A year of art on view

PLATTSBURGH — For present seekers, time is running out to locate that special gift.

The elusive but perfect gift may be discovered among original art exhibited in the Holiday Member Show 2013 at the North Country Cultural Center for the Arts.

“It’s done every year in December to allow them to show the work they created throughout the year,” said Mary Polhemus, gallery coordinator.

“There were 40-plus artists who showed. Each artist was able to enter three works to be shown. We had some oil paintings, prints, acrylic paintings and ceramics.”

Featured artists are Michael Carrino, Kathy Donnery, Karen Parker, William M. Crosby, Suzanne Doin, Patricia Best, Sara S. Black, Bryan Briscoe, S. Booker, Keith Provost, Gerald Hofmaister, Carol Hofmaister, Linda LaMarche Harwood, June Levenson, Jackie Sabourin, Gordon LeClair, Amy Guglielmo, Tamia Gastio, Ron Nolland, Kristen Larkin Otap, Judy Guglielmo, Darlynn Bates, Gail Morris, Ellen Heyman, Jan Stanley, Bill Colquhoun, Penelope Clute, Andrea Knight, Carol Hochreiter, Frank Hochreiter, Anne Bailey, Stephen Pedulla, Gharan Burton, Fred Keil, Charlie Burbage, Clay Morris, Kimberly Berg, Denise Duprey, Jen Shutts, Laura Carbone, Rebecca Conklin, Shawna Armstrong, James “Windsop” Newman, Michael Brockhures, Marjorie Burns and D. Austin.

The exhibit’s opening coincided with the last First Weekends downtown.

“There was a tree-lighting going on in our front yard,” Polhemus said. “It was definitely a benefit. We recorded 200 people came in and browsed the gallery that night, which was great.”

The Member Show runs through Jan. 17

“The Cultural Center is closed for Christmas week. We’re closed all week next week. We open Jan. 2.”

The next exhibition, photography, features Bob Kasper and Laura Carbone. Opening reception is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. pm. Jan. 17.

“Two artists showing an eclectic mix,” Polhemus said. “Both of them have a mix of landscapes.”
