Music show to kick off ROTACON

PLATTSBURGH — Local musicians will gather at ROTA Gallery and Studios at 7 p.m. Feb. 14 to celebrate the beginning of the third-annual ROTACON event, which will begin at 2 p.m. Feb. 15.

The ROTACON convention features artwork and merchandise of all kinds from various community members. Show-goers will have the opportunity to view original fan-art and illustrations from locals.

Performers will include Irradiated Beef, Trinity Park Radio and Coloring Walls.

STOP Domestic Violence event planned for mall

PLATTSBURGH — Behavioral Health Services North is encouraging people to attend the One Billion Rising program scheduled for 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, at the Champlain Centre mall in Plattsburgh.

“One Billion Rising is a revolution where everyone can dance — where we celebrate the power and resilience of women and girls, and our shared hope for a better future,” a press release states.

Included will be the Adirondack Liturgical Dance Troupe, Zumba, Masouda World Dance Ensemble, Guibord’s North Country School of Dance, Lake Placid School of Ballet & Dance, and Salsa Dancing.

ACW announces Literary Awards

SARANAC LAKE — The Adirondack Center for Writing is looking for submissions of fiction, non-fiction, children’s literature, memoir, edited collections and poetry for its Literary Awards.

Judges will choose a winner from each category, and popular vote decides a People’s Choice Award at the ceremony in June. The Blue Mountain Center donates space and resources for the event.

Send two copies of book submissions (articles and short stories are not eligible) to: Nathalie Thill, ACW Office, P.O. Box 956, Saranac Lake, NY 12983. Include a brief cover letter that includes contact info (including email address and snail mail address) and the genre in which you wish your book to be placed (fiction, nonfiction, poetry, children’s literature, memoir, edited collection or photography).
