PLATTSBURGH — Parents, campers, counselors and others are turning out for $1 summer matinees at Champlain Centre mall.
The Regal Summer Movie Express program, hosted at Regal Champlain Centre Stadium 8, features a lineup of 18 kids movies across nine weeks in July and August.
“Each movie is one dollar, and they play both movies on both days,” said Courtney Coryea, Champlain Centre’s marketing director.
She said that part of the proceeds from the program will benefit the Will Rogers Hospital and Memorial Fund.
“The foundation benefits pulmonary research, and it helps promote fitness and healthy activity.”
Nearly 400 customers, including about 70 campers from the Noblewood Summer Program in Willsboro, attended the second week, which featured a choice of “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2” or “The Pirates! Band of Misfits.”
Linda Welch said she plans to bring her family back to theater throughout the summer.
In addition to being affordable, “it gives children something to do with their parents,” she said.
To celebrate her son's birthday, Amy Ryan brought him and a friend from preschool to the movies.
“It’s great that they have this event," Ryan said.
"They know that other kids will be here, so if they’re rowdy, it’s OK.”
The Summer Movie Express is held at 10 a.m. every Tuesday and Wednesday through July and August.
The listing of movies appears every Friday in the Press-Republican Community Calendar.
