Plattsburgh got on the board early in the contest when Tom Greene got to the end line and sent a low cross to the far side of the net where Ethan Votraw was there to score at the 5:48 mark.
The Cardinals continued to carry the majority of play but weren’t able to take a lead until Chaparro’s first goal of the game.
“We have the ability to create an extraordinary amount of offensive chances,” Waterbury said. “But we have trouble with the final product — we don’t have a true finisher right now.
“I can’t argue that we controlled 75 percent of the game today. We were flying and creating so many chances. But we just don’t have that puncher’s knockout to finish off opponents.”
The Cardinals finished with a 17-10 shot advantage. Mitchell Jordon made five stops for Plattsburgh and Ian Huntoon four for Buffalo State (6-7-1, 2-4).
“Matt Hamilton and Fabian Chaparro were outstanding for us,” Waterbury said.
The Cardinals now host Fredonia, a 3-2 loser at Potsdam State on Friday, at 1 p.m. today.
