PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh State women’s tennis team suffered a 9-0 sweep at the hands of the New Paltz Hawks Sunday morning in the final State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) match of the weekend at the Memorial Hall Tennis Courts.
The Hawks made quick work of all three doubles matches, sweeping each match-up by a score of 8-0.
New Paltz’s Olivia Ammirati defeated Plattsburgh’s Emily Carlin, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 1 singles while Cardinal rookie Kaitlyn Healy lost to Paige Munroe by the same score at No. 2 singles.
The Hawks continued to dominate in singles action, rolling to 6-0, 6-1 wins at third, fifth and sixth singles. The closest match came at No. 4 singles between Tedi Politano of Plattsburgh and Allie Starke of New Paltz. Despite a battle from Politano, Starke walked away with an 8-5 win in a pro set.
With the loss, the Cardinals drop to 1-3 overall and finish regular season conference play with a 0-3 mark. The Hawks improve to 4-0 on the year, which includes a 3-0 record against SUNYAC East Division opponents.
Plattsburgh returns to action Saturday in a non-conference match against Mount Saint Mary. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Memorial Hall Tennis Courts.
