TROY — Runner-up performances by senior Kelley Driscoll and sophomore Jess Huber, as well as a record-breaking performance by junior Amanda Gadway, helped the Plattsburgh State women’s team finish 10th at the ECAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which where held at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Thursday and Friday.
Driscoll, Huber and Gadway corralled all 22 points for the Cardinals, who were one of two SUNYAC teams in the top 10. MIT took the team title with 56 points, and Rowan (44) and Ithaca (40) rounded out the top three.
In her first of three events, Gadway let loose a toss of 48.64 meters in the hammer throw to break her own school record and place sixth in a field of 27.
Senior Katie Ehmann clocked in a time of 11:44.79 in the 3,000 steeplechase to finish 20th place Thursday. Driscoll, a Geneva native, raced to second place in the 10,000 with a time of 36:31.57.
The bulk of the Plattsburgh contingent waited until Friday to compete. The 400 relay team of Lauren Carlino, Roxanne Grolley, Huber and Kelly Siry finished 23rd out of 42 teams. Christen Averill, Jasmine Boncore, Rebecca Muschio and Megan Schweizer placed 19th in the 3,200 relay.
Huber, who had the second-fastest time in Thursday’s 100 dash prelims, took second in Friday’s final in a time of 12.10 seconds. In the shot put, Ashley Gadway made a 12th-place throw of 12.03 meters, while her sister Amanda finished 19th. Amanda Gadway also placed sixth in the discus with a throw of 40.56 meters. Sophomore Stephanie Catalioto was 21st, and Ashley Gadway placed 30th.
Currently, Huber Plattsburgh athlete who has a shot to make it to the NCAA Division III Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Ohio Wesleyan University May 22 to 24. The Plattsburgh native is the owner of the 10th-fastest 100 dash time and the sixth-quickest 200 dash time in Division III. Huber will learn if she makes the cut for one or both events when the NCAA releases its list of national qualifiers at 9 a.m. Sunday.
