ONEONTA — Joey Kramer and Tim Lawrence scored four goals each as the nationally-ranked No. 20 Plattsburgh State men’s lacrosse team cruised to a 16-6 victory at Oneonta in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) matchup at All College Field.
With the win, the Cardinals improve to 10-3 overall and 2-1 in the league. The Red Dragons drop to 2-9 and 0-3 in the SUNYAC.
It was a lopsided first half as Plattsburgh State outshot Oneonta 28-12 through the first 30 minutes and took a 7-0 lead into halftime. The Cardinals opened the game with two quick goals from Lawrence and Kramer. Kramer added another at the 1:09 mark of the first quarter before Brendan Damm found the back of the net with one second left in the first.
Lawrence made it 5-0 at 14:11 of the second followed by an unassisted goal by Nick Travers just five seconds later. Brett McClelland wrapped up the scoring in the first half with his 21st of the year at the 11:50 mark.
Back-to-back goals by Damm and Lawrence gave the Cardinals a 9-0 lead in the third before Anthony Pafundi scored on an extra-man opportunity at 4:53 to give Plattsburgh State a 10-0 advantage.
The Red Dragons were finally able to get on the board with 3:23 left in the third, scoring on an unassisted effort by Matthew Knapp.
Kramer opened the fourth quarter with his third of the afternoon but Oneonta scored the next three, including two man-up goals, to gain some momentum late in the game.
Travers turned the tides back in favor of the Cardinals at the 7:02 mark of the final stanza with his second of the day from Cole Andersen. Oneonta would score two more times in the quarter, but four more goals by the Cardinals would put the game out of reach for the Red Dragons.
