GENESEO — Coming off of a respite of nearly two weeks, the Plattsburgh State women’s cross country team found itself taking part in one of their most important meets of the season on Saturday morning.
With a pair of top-15 finishes by Kelley Driscoll and Katie Ehmann, the Cardinals were able to put together an 11th-place team finish at the 35th Annual Geneseo Cross Country Invitational at Letchworth State Park. In all, 18 teams were present and accounted for at the pre-regional event.
With a number of SUNYAC and regional squads in attendance, the Cardinals were able to use the meet as a litmus test to see how they would stack up against the competition once postseason competition commences in November.
Driscoll was the second SUNYAC student-athlete to cross the finish line, posting a time of 22:24 on the six-kilometer course en route to a sixth-place finish. Not far behind was Ehmann, who traversed the course in a time of 22:39.6 which was good for 13th place.
Freshman Lauren Perschetz was the third Plattsburgh State runner to break the proverbial tape. She was clocked in a time of 24:46.2 and finished in 112th. Trailing Perschetz was junior Amanda Joskow who posted a 120th-place finish in a time of 24:49.7.
Rounding out the group of Cardinals who accumulated team points was Megan Schweizer who recorded a 141st-place finish. Her time of 25:07.5 made her one of three runners to finish during the one-second span of 25:07.
With their 296 team points already logged, the Cardinals saw Kristin Schnalzer (181st, 25:53.7) and Morgan Deming (189th, 26:05.8) cross the finish line as part of the top 200 finishers. Tiffani Love (221st, 27:03.9), Brianna Bessette (249th, 29:05.2), Kelsey McNally (250th, 29:12.3), Hilary Crannage (261st, 30:53.3) and Brittany Greene (266th, 31:37.8) also competed at the meet.
Having made one of their longest trips of the season, the Cardinals will cut down on their travel time next Saturday. Plattsburgh State is scheduled to embark on a journey to Canton to take part in the Hoffman Invitational hosted by St. Lawrence University. The start of the meet had been set for 11 a.m.
