BROCKPORT — The Cardinals came away with another series sweep, this time on the road against the Golden Eagles.
Brockport (8-10, 4-7 SUNYAC) showed excellent effort and was determined not to go away, but Plattsburgh outplayed its conference foe and defeated the Golden Eagles 69-58 in women’s SUNYAC basketball play.
“I thought at some points of the game Brockport played harder than we did,” Cardinals coach Cheryl Cole said. “I thought we played in spurts, but overall it was a good win.”
Plattsburgh (15-4,10-2) held the 32-27 lead at halftime, but its shooting really came alive in the second. The Cardinals shot just under 43 percent from the floor, and knocked down 4-of-10 from behind the arc.
“We shot real well in the second half; we did a good job inside and out,” Cole said.
Kathleen Payne led Plattsburgh with 21 points, shooting 7-for-9 from the field, while also pulling down four rebounds and making two blocks.
But it was Tequila Lloyd, who was out all last week due to an illness, that had one of her best performances of the season for the Cardinals.
Coming off the bench, Lloyd finished the night with a double-double, pulling down 13 boards — seven offensive — and putting up 13 points, as she shot an efficient 6-for-13 from the floor.
“(Lloyd) played really big for us, probably one of her best games of the season,” Cole said.
Cole also credited Misha Green’s defensive performance, as the 5-8 forward also added 12 points and seven rebounds on the day.
“Misha did her damage early (and) she played her usual good defense,” Cole said. “She’s our most consistent kid; she is our heart and soul of our defense.”
Alexandra Marshall led the Golden Eagles with 15 points and four rebounds, while teammate Hannalee Fordyce had a tremendous day on the boards, pulling down 10 — six offensive — while also recording eight points.
