BROCKPORT — For the third time this season, sophomore Jess Huber reset the Plattsburgh State school record in the 60-meter dash and the Plattsburgh State women’s indoor track and field team collected a sixth-place team finish at the SUNYAC Indoor Track and Field Championships on the campus of The College at Brockport on Saturday.
Huber posted an ECAC-qualifying time of 8.02 seconds in the shortest sprint race of the day before enjoying another good showing in the 200-meter dash.
A fifth-place finish awaited the Plattsburgh product in the 200, and her time of 26.27 seconds was also an ECAC qualifying mark.
The Cardinals amassed 38 points during the conference meet which was won by SUNY Cortland (130 points). Buffalo State (114 points) was the runner-up and SUNY Geneseo (105 points) placed third.
Eight of the team points the Cardinals picked up came from senior Kelley Driscoll who raced to a runner-up finish in the 5,000-meter run. The Geneva native was clocked in a time of 17:43.58 — just one second behind event winner Rachel Malone.
Once again, the field events produced some more highlights for the Cardinals. Amanda Gadway came up with a runner-up and ECAC-qualifying toss of 14.14 meters in the weight throw while her sister, Ashley, placed fifth with a throw of 13.49 meters.
In the shot put, Ashley finished fourth with an ECAC-qualifying throw of 11.67 meters. Amanda was fifth, and scored four team points for the Cardinals with her 11.48-meter toss.
Next weekend, a collection of Cardinals will represent Plattsburgh State at the ECAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. The two-day meet is scheduled to begin on Friday at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center in Boston, Mass.
Vinson leads men
Freshman Ethan Vinson ran a personal best in the one-mile run to lead the Plattsburgh State men’s indoor track and field team at the SUNYAC Championships.
The Newport product earned a sixth-place finish in the race with a time of 4:23.64. Buffalo State took home the team title as the Bengals racked up 130 points. Oneonta State (122) and SUNY Cortland (106) rounded out the top three teams at the conference meet.
In the weight throw, Dan Bennett bettered his previous personal best by nearly a meter as he made a toss of 13.68 meters to finish in 13th place.
