Three Cardinals named to softball All-SUNYAC Team

CORTLAND — Three members of the Plattsburgh State softball team were named to the 2013 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Softball All-Conference Team in an announcement made by the league office Tuesday morning. 

Ashley Marshall receives a spot of the All-SUNYAC First Team to become the first four-time all-conference player in Cardinal softball history. Marshall finished the season with a 21-7 record to lead the league in wins. She also led the conference with a 1.76 ERA and 292 strikeouts. A senior from Malone, Marshall was named SUNYAC Pitcher of the Week four times during the 2013 season and was selected to the SUNYAC All-Tournament Team.

Brianna Clarke is a Second Team All-SUNYAC player for the second straight season after leading the Plattsburgh State offense with a .389 batting average that also ranked seventh in the league. She was fifth in the conference with a .603 slugging percentage, 10th with a .445 on-base percentage and 10th with 28 RBIs. A junior out Manorville, N.Y., Clarke led the Cardinals with 51 hits, five home runs, 11 doubles and 79 total bases.

Megan Price earns all-conference honors for the first time in her career as a member of the All-SUNYAC Second Team. Price finished the season with a .287 batting average, including a .333 mark in conference game. The Niskayuna, N.Y. native finished her junior campaign with 33 hits, seven doubles and 19 RBIs.

MARSHALL SUNYAC PITCHER OF YEAR

CORTLAND — Ashley Marshall of the Plattsburgh State softball team has been named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Pitcher of the Year for the second straight season. The annual awards, which on voted on by the conference coaches, were announced Tuesday by the SUNYAC office.

Marshall is a four-time All-SUNYAC player and the most dominant pitcher to don a Cardinal uniform in the program’s 15-year history. The Malone native finished the 2013 season with a 21-7 record and led the league in wins, ERA (1.76), innings pitched (199.1), opposing batting average (.211) and strikeouts (292). Marshall was named the SUNYAC Pitcher of the Week four times this season and was selected to the SUNYAC All-Tournament Team.
