AuSable Valley senior Jimmy Stickles stops 16 shots to break the national high-school record for career saves with 1,140.

Anthony Rodriguez sets a CVAC single-game rushing record with 422 yards and six touchdowns in Moriah’s wild 46-28 win over Saranac.

Heather Chapla , making her first start in goal, comes up with 41 saves to help Elizabethtown-Lewis gain a 1-1 tie with Chazy.

Kristie LaBare scores one goal and assists on another to spark Chateaugay to a 2-0 victory over Parishville-Hopkinton.  Katie Chase makes 10 saves for the shutout.

Sabrena Johnson’s second goal of the game, with 8:04 left, rallies unbeaten Northeastern Clinton to a 3-2 triumph over Beekmantown.

Zack Welch scores midway through the second half to give Northern Adirondack a 1-0 victory over previously unbeaten Northeastern Clinton.

Corey Lewis scores on a diving header two minutes into overtime to give Chazy a 3-2 win over Elizabethtown-Lewis.

20 YEARS AGO (1992)

Middle linebacker Andy Branham sparks a strong second half as Peru forces 5 Redskin turnovers in rallying for a 34-21 win over Saranac Lake. Sophomore Craig Duprey passes for one score and runs for another to lead Peru. Dennis Dwyer

scores twice for Saranac Lake.

Jay Quenneville, Kyle Kirby and Tony Holdby score second-half touchdowns to spur Franklin Academy on to its first win ever over Watertown, 32-26.

Jen LaFleur finishes second to lead the Northeastern Clinton girls to a first-place finish in Div. II of the Essex Junction (Vt.) Invitational. Malone’s Jason Goodrow and Jeremy Poirier  run 1-2 in the Div. I boys’ race.

Jeremy Bruce catches 2 passes for touchowns and runs back an interception for a score to lead Moriah over Seton Catholic 34-14.

Darrell LaFrance kicks a 28-yard field goal and runs for a 6-yard score to spark Ticonderoga over Beekmantown 25-6.

Heather Thompson, Pam Dashnaw and Jen Wilson score goals as Peru tops Beekmantown 3-0 for Coach Cathy Phillips’ 100th career victory in soccer.

25 YEARS AGO (1987)

Tommy Raville puts together rounds of 75, 76 and 77 for a 54-hole score of 228 in placing eighth out of 150 golfers at the New York State Mid-Amateur Championships in Rochester. The event is for players 25 years and older.

Mike Cleveland’s penalty kick with 6 minutes to play gives St. John’s a 1-0 win over Plattsburgh High.

Craig Worley scores twice as AuSable Valley rallies from a 1-0 halftime deficit to defeat NCCS 4-1.

Joani Kazlo converts a penalty shot 18 minutes into the game and Crown Point goes on to beat Westport 1-0 to claim sole possession of first in the MVAC South.

Anne Winterkorn turns in 2 school-record performances and joins Jackie Speer and Beth Bergevin as triple winners as PHS prevails 119-53 to snap Peru’s dual-meet winning streak in swimming at 75. Julie Dandrow and Leigh Ryan

are double winners for the Hornets.

Mike Roark and Eric Stanley come up with big defensive plays in the second half, helping PHS preserve a 19-18 victory over Beekmantown.

Bob Dedrick hits Terry Brannock for a 33-yard TD pass and Mike Rich boots the point after to give Ticonderoga a 7-6 win over Saranac Lake. Chris Blanchard scores on a 2-yard sneak in the first quarter for the Redskins, but the PAT attempt is blocked.

Scott Keith runs for 187 yards and 3 touchdowns in Malone’s 25-6 win over Gouverneur.

Jeff Mulverhill, Sue Bergh, Mike Davio, Tom Dumont and Bobby Tavernier lead Franklin Academy to a sweep of all 5 classes in the Shaker Invitational cross-country meet.

30 YEARS AGO (1982)

Patti Burdo’s goal late in the fourth quarter gives unbeaten Elizabethtown-Lewis a 3-2 come-from-behind win over Willsboro. Wendy Lavigne gets the Lions’ first 2 goals while Judy Thompson and Jodi Marcotte

score for the Warriors.

Cathy Drollette scores twice to lead Dannemora to a 4-2 win over Westport. Beth Pombrio and Becky Snyder also score for the winners while Robyn Ryan

tallies twice for the Eagles.

Sophomore Walt Worth scores 4 goals in Crown Point’s 6-2 win over Lake Placid. Terry Thatcher adds 2 scores while Roman Aluisy and John Martin connect for the Blue Bombers.

Erin Casey scores twice to lead MAI over Northern Adirondack 2-0.

Transfer Mark Kelly runs for 142 yards and 2 TDs and Tony Lamica adds a score as Malone stuns defending NAC champ Saranac Lake 19-0. It is the Huskies’ first win over the Redskins in more than 10 years.

Gary Kerr converts John Garrant’s direct kick into the game’s only score as PHS tops St. John’s 1-0 to snap the Irish’s 14-game unbeaten streak in boys’ soccer.

Bill Garrison scores 3 goals to lead unbeaten Elizabethtown-Lewis to a 4-2 victory over Keene Central. Chris D’Angelo, Chip Dickerson and Paul Arnold

score goals to give Willsboro a 3-1 win over defending MVAC champ Chazy.

40 YEARS AGO (1972)

John Carpenter picks off 2 passes and Tim White engineers 3 drives deep into St. Lawrence University territory; however, Plattsburgh State falls 16-0 to the Saints in a night game at Bailey Ave.

Dewey Reil returns an interception 25 yards for a score as PHS swipes 6 passes in a 27-0 win over Holy Family.

Steve Howley scores twice, once on an 87-yard run, to lead MAI to a 20-7 victory over Beekmantown in Head Coach Frank Sterrett’s debut with the Mounties.

Bill Yasment scores 1:50 into the first overtime to send Northern Adirondack on to a 2-0 soccer win over Northeastern Clinton.

Bill Proulx, George Poissant and Tom Trombley score for Chazy in a 3-0 win over Peru.

50 YEARS AGO (1962)

Jimmy Baker scores 3 touchdowns, Dave LaMora, 2, and John Kitchen, one, in Plattsburgh High’s 41-0 victory over Beekmantown.

John Lahtinen passes for 3 touchdowns and runs 80 yards for another score to lead Moriah past Lake Placid 41-12. Bob Mitchell and Ralph Paden each score twice for the Vikings. Jim Steck runs for one score and passes to Frank Sears

for the other for the Blue Bombers.

Chip Dandrow runs for 186 yards and a touchdown and passes for another in leading MAI over St. Pius 34-0.

Don Fairley scores on a 99-yard run while Charlie Finnegan and John Neyenhouse each score twice in Peru’s 60-0 win over Keeseville.

Dick Gunning and Dan Hopkins score on TD passes while Fred Wehrman, Bill Arthur and John Rice add rushing TDs in Ticonderoga’s 34-6 triumph over OLVA. Richie Daul scores for the Purple Foxes.

60 YEARS AGO (1952)

Roswell Spinks homers in each game to lead Scheier’s Cardinals to a 10-4, 10-8 sweep of the Lido Club and to the championship of the City Softball League. Walt Dufour and Len Kelly are the winning pitchers. Milt Rockwell

belts a homer for Lido in Game 1.

Ron Cote returns an interception 35 yards to score and Tommy Mannix links up with Jim Ryan on a 35-yard TD toss; however, St. Mary’s Academy scores on the final play of the game to salvage a 13-13 tie.

Bob Dragoon and Fran Doyle each get 2 hits and Mel Wilson , home on leave from the army, limits AuSable Forks to 4 hits as Plattsburgh Rheingold wins 8-6 in an exhibition game.

Larry Phinney scores on a 4-yard run, but Tommy Ward runs for 3 touchdowns to lead Hudson Falls to a 19-6 win over Port Henry.

70 YEARS AGO (1942)

Robinson Feed of Chazy and the B.F.D. are the new teams in the Tuesday Merchants bowling league at Nash Recreation Parlor. Robinson’s includes Mattoon, Langlois, Woolever, Nash and Robinson while B.F.D. includes Larson, Lucy, Dukette, Blades and Hamel.
