10 YEARS AGO (2003)

Brian Harris wins a 3-set match while the Jones sisters Heather, Kim and Alicia — prevail in their matches to help Plattsburgh High sweep the Section VII Class B tennis titles.

Lake Placid and Seton Catholic split in Class C tennis. Alex Smith, Kyle Payton and Peter Hyson sweep in singles to give Lake Placid the boys crown while Bryn Fessette, Katelyn Mockry, Christine Murnane and Alison Fregeau sweep the doubles as Seton Catholic claims the girls title.

Kelly Gordon knocks in 2 runs with 2 hits and Joey Painter pitches a 3-hitter to lead AuSable Valley to a 7-2 victory over PHS in the Section VII Class B baseball final.

Chris Thompson, making only his second varsity start, pitches a 4-hitter as Tupper Lake defeats NAC 10-1 for the Class C crown.

Debbie Davis delivers 3 runs with 3 hits and Anna Case chips in with 3, also, as PHS knocks off top-seed NCCS 12-2 in the Class B softball final.

Michelle Perron, Katie Meserve, Tara Vilardo and Ali Gladding all contribute 2 hits to Ticonderoga’s 9-1 triumph over Seton Catholic in the Class C final.

Morgan Budwick and Megan Budwick each get 2 hits as Crown Point gains revenge over Moriah, 9-6, in the Class D title game.

Jason Dessureault of NCCS qualifies in 3 events while Sue-Ann Dunn of PHS and Tupper Lake’s Shannon Dupuis and Nicole Stuart each advance in 2 events in the state qualifier in track & field.

20 YEARS AGO (1993)

Ricky Provost, Cadyville, lands the top lake trout (12.3 pounds) and Chazy’s Dennis LaPorte, the top salmon (6.4 pounds) in the 8th Rotary Fishing Tournament.

Sara Facteau wins 4 events and Matt Goette, 3, as Peru sweeps the Section VII track & field titles. For the boys, it’s their eighth crown in a row; for the girls, their fourth straight.

Jason Lee leads PHS to a successful defense of its Section VII Class B tennis title while Chris Peets paces Northeastern Clinton to another Class C championship.

Tara Reed bests Missy West as Gouverneur downs Malone 7-2 in the Section X Class B softball final. Reed and West share MVP honors for the season.

Carrie Frederick pitches a 3-hitter as Peru tops Seton Catholic for the Section VII Class B softball title. Liz Fayette leads Saranac to the Class C crown and Britt Isham sparks Keene to the Class D title.

25 YEARS AGO (1988)

Peru’s Todd Furnia soars 22 feet, one-half inch to win the long jump while Ticonderoga’s Kellie Grinnell doubles in the 400-meter hurdles and long jump in the CVAC individual track & field championships.

Malone’s Ann LaVeck breaks the Section X girls’ record for the discus with a throw of 124 feet, 2 inches.

Eric Gibson pitches a 4-hitter with 7 strikeouts to send NAC to a 3-1 victory over AuSable Valley in the Section VII Class C baseball final. Jeff Brown homers for the Patriots.

30 YEARS AGO (1983)

Beekmantown’s Pakul LaRock strikes out 26 batters in a 2-1, 10-inning victory over Saranac. LaRock, who throws 160 pitches — 114 for strikes — also homers while Steve Criss gets the game-winning hit in the 10th.

Meg Schneider collects 4 hits and Tammy Flora, 3, as Willsboro edges Elizabethtown-Lewis 4-3 for the MVAC overall title in softball.

John White ties the Section VII record for the 110-meter hurdles and Derek Baum, Dan Manning, Jim Lambert and Doug Olson set a record in the 1,600-meter relay to help PHS end Ticonderoga’s four-year reign in boys track. AuSable Valley’s Wayne Lacy clears 14 feet, 2 inches in the pole vault to shatter the section record by more than 2 feet.

Kathy Roach and Cindy Rodgers each claim 3 firsts in leading St. John’s to a fourth straight Section VII track title for girls.

40 YEARS AGO (1973)

Mark Judge tosses his second straight 3-hit shutout to give PHS a 2-0, 10-inning win over Northern Adirondack for the CVAC North title. Russ Keller’s RBI double and Mark Garrow’s run-scoring single account for the runs.

Former Beekmantown standout Mike St. Louis scatters 7 hits and contributes an RBI single as Ithaca College defeats Florida Southern 4-1 in the College Division World Series.

Craig Panton breaks both section records for the hurdles and Jimmy Holland runs a 4:27.3 mile to best Billy Benson’s 14-year-old record as Peru makes it 8 straight track titles.

Jim McGraw knocks off defending champion Greg Dennin of Lake Placid to lift Beekmantown to its first Section VII tennis championship. Reigning champ Chestertown is third. Peter Allen and Bill McCormick of PHS win doubles.

Brian Russell (84) and George Bouyea (85) lead MAI to a one-stroke victory over PHS for the Section VII golf championship. Westport’s Kerry Quinn, playing over his home course, cards an 80 for medalist honors.

50 YEARS AGO (1963)

Beekmantown sophomore Melissa Wright wins individual honors with a 583 scratch series in the U.S. Junior Bowling Championships. Wright, Mary Maloney, Karen Knuffke, Debbie Connick and Rosie LaPierre place 18th in team competition.

Bill Landrie, Brian McClean and Ira Barbell pace Plattsburgh High to the Section VII track championship.

Moriah’s Bob Mitchell tosses a 2-hitter and helps his cause with 2 hits in a 2-0 victory over Peru.

Charlie Trombley turns a 24.1-second lap on his way to a quarter-lap victory over Ed Dukette in the Sportsman feature at Airborne Speedway. Harry Provost, Bob Bruno and Mack Miller round out the top five.

60 YEARS AGO (1953)

Pete Cronin belts a grand slam and Roger Mullarky adds a 2-run blast as St. John’s defeats OLVA and Warren Tessier, 9-3. Dick Casey pitches a 2-hitter for the Irish.

Frank Dukette extends his scoreless innings streak to 39 before giving up a run as Dannemora completes a 10-0 season with a 15-3 victory over Lyon Mountain. Bill Brennan and Bill Badger each get 3 hits for the Knights.

Basil Curry, 16, pitches his second no-hitter of the season and strikes out 14 in Ellenburg’s 9-2 romp past Altona.

Keith Brown sets new record for the discus with a throw of 139 feet, 11 inches as PHS wins a tri-meet with Willsboro and Saranac.

70 YEARS AGO (1943)

Arnold Beauchemin pitches a no-hitter for St. John’s in a 9-1 win over Dannemora. Doyle picks up 3 hits and O’Hara chips in with a 2-run triple.

Ralph Milne’s 2-run homer and Stanley Garrow’s triple power PHS to a 6-5 win over Elizabethtown. Garrow and Glenn Clark combine on a 6-hitter. Ryan has 3 hits for Elizabethtown while Hurley, Bastian and Hudson also get hits.

E. Carter outduels Hal Stokes and B. Ashline chips in with hits as Rouses Point nips PHS 3-2.
