10 YEARS AGO (2003)

Poland’s 7-time world champion, Karol Jablonski, bests a field of more than 100 sailors in the Ice Sailing World Cup Regatta off AuSable Point.

Sabrina Morris, Kim Bezio, Katrina Staves and Lauren Keough lead the way as Plattsburgh High sweeps Northern Adirondack 3-0, ending the Bobcats’ 2-year winning streak in volleyball.

B.J. Rockwell scores a 4th-round knockout to win the 141-pound Open Division final of the Vermont Golden Gloves boxing tournament.

Jamie Breyette scores 3 goals and picks up 2 assists while Ian Stanton tallies twice and gets the game-winner in Plattsburgh High’s 6-5 overtime win over Saranac.

Jeremy Deyo gets 4 goals and an assist in Beekmantown’s 10-3 blowout of Albany CBA.

Kate Sheldon scores 15 points and grabs 10 rebounds to lead Keene to a 45-40 victory over Long Lake.

Mike Fernandez pours in 31 points to spark Moriah to a 65-52 win over Seton Catholic.

Matt Bezio scores 20 points and collects 10 rebounds while Mike Oertel adds 16 points and Adam Prue, 14, as Peru tops Saranac Lake 78-55 to clinch Div. I in CVAC play. Matt Daunais leads the Red Storm with 22 points.

20 YEARS AGO (1993)

Gavin Johnston scores twice and Mark Laramee, Joe Munn and tourney MVP Mark Cass each add a goal as Saranac Lake downs Lake Placid 5-1 in the final of the Lake Placid High School Hockey Tournament. It is the Red Storm’s ninth win in a row.

Nicole Purick scores 13 points as Seton Catholic defeats Peru, 46-36, to give Bruce Stevens his 100th coaching victory. Felicia Reyes leads Peru with 15 points.

Missy West scores a career-high 37 points to pace Franklin Academy of Malone to a 63-55 win over Salmon River. Denise Durant leads the Shamrocks with 17.

Brenda Higgins and Amy Stevens combine for 33 points as unbeaten Peru tops NAC in volleyball. Gwen LaBarre serves 13 points for the Bobcats.

Westport’s Ryan Sherman and Doug Allen of Crown Point both reach 1,000 points for their basketball careers on the same night.

25 YEARS AGO (1988)

Cindy Beebie scores 24 points and comes up with 2 big steals to give MAI a 43-40 double-overtime win over St. John’s. Jackie Everett leads the Irish with 12.

Freshman Eldric Venne, at 215, clinches a 25-24 victory for unbeaten Saranac over Peru. Rick Vasquez (119) and Brian Sullivan (126) also come up with big wins for the Chiefs.

Jim Spring scores 17 points while Art Morgan and Dale Bigelow chip in with 12 apiece as Willsboro wraps up the MVAC title with an 89-47 triumph over Lake Placid.

Mark Boule gets 3 goals and 3 assists as MAI, trailing 2-0, rallies to beat PHS 7-5. Eric Brown scores twice for the Hornets.

30 YEARS AGO (1983)

Peru quarterback standout Pete Ewald signs a letter of intent to attend Syracuse University. Ewald finishes his Peru football career with 1,558 yards passing and 23 touchdowns and 1,331 yards rushing and 16 touchdowns.

Tournament MVP Dan Magee, Tom Graf and Brian Dumesnil score goals within a 3-minute span to lead Northeastern Clintoon to a 5-0 victory over Malone in the championship game of the Malone Winter Carnival Hockey Tournament. Tim Tetreault makes 20 saves in posting the shutout. Mike McDonald makes 35 saves for the Huskies.

Tod Fobare scores twice as Union College defeats Plattsburgh State 5-2 for its fifth straight victory. Keith Wright and Steve Plaskon score for the Cardinals.

Tim Sparks tosses in 19 points and Peru wins its fifth straight, beating Saranac 58-50.

West Genesee overcomes 39 saves from Adrian Strack to beat Lake Placid 3-2 in double overtime in the final of the 40th Lake Placid Winter Carnival Hockey Tournament. Greg Fisher and Tony Patterson score for the Blue Bombers.

Steve LaDuke tallies 31 points in Dannemora’s 70-67 upset of Schroon Lake. Chris Speziali nets 27 for the Wildcats.

40 YEARS AGO (1973)

Mickey Carpenter scores 27 points as St. John’s regains the division lead with a 53-46 victory over PHS before 1,500 fans at the PSUC Field House. Mark Garrow leads the Hornets with 15 points.

Saranac overcomes Peru’s stall tactics to win its 12th straight, 40-17. Butch Butchino, with 17 points, leads the Chiefs who were up 9-1 at halftime.

Roy Ano fires in 46 points to lead AuSable Valley to an 86-58 victory over Ticonderoga. Frank Hughes scores 24 for the Sentinels.

Hugh Vanderbeek tallies 19 points and Rick Morrison, 16, to lead Northeastern Clinton to a 64-47 win over Beekmantown. Mike Ducatte paces the Eagles with 20.

50 YEARS AGO (1963)

Bob Dumas pins Ron Fountain in a big upset at 136 pounds to help Plattsburgh defeat Peru 31-22, and improve to 8-2 in wrestling. Bob Brown, Dick Johnson and Phil Bowman also register pins for the Hornets while Floyd Rudmin, Clarence McGee, Jerry Bradley and Jim Stafford win by fall for Peru.

Len Costin’s 25-point effort sparks Willsboro to a 62-56 victory over Schroon Lake.

Tom Gebo scores 20 points and grabs 23 rebounds to lead unbeaten Moriah past Keeseville 70-50.

Paul Lewis hits for 24 points and grabs 21 rebounds in Plattsburgh State’s 72-67 victory over Buffalo State. John Pelkaus adds 17 for the Cardinals.

Malone barber Clare Prevost posts high scores of 268 and 717 to win the Fourth Annual Scratch Tournament at Plattsburgh Lanes.

60 YEARS AGO (1953)

Jim Sears scores 23 points, Gary O’Leary and Doug Mehne add 15 apiece and Gil Burnell chips in with 10 as Plattsburgh State Teachers College rallies to beat Potsdam State 77-67. Ken Van Orman leads the Bears with 14.

Fran Horne hits for 35 points in Plattsburgh High’s 79-54 triumph over Port Henry. Gabe DeVitto scores 17 for the Porters.

Jerry Dufort fires in 33 points and Don Ashlaw, 18, to lead St. Joseph’s of Malone to a 77-59 triumph over Keeseville. Bennett scores 21 for Keeseville.

Mike Beauvais scores 20 points as Plattsburgh High tops AuSable Forks 66-49. Bob Mousseau leads AuSable Forks with 18 points while Greg Kurz nets 14.

70 YEARS AGO (1943)

The Mooers girls, led by Marjorie Blain, defeat Rouses Point 32-14.

70 figure skaters from the Plattsburgh Winter Sports Club perform in front of 2,000 in the Victory Ice Pageant. Among the featured skaters are Kay and Lucille Logan, Jane Gebo, Wanda King, Patsy Manning, Jane Welch, Kenwith Hoeffert, Gloria Semansky and John Ladue.

Larose scores 21 points to spark Morrisonville to a 48-45 win over Champlain. E. Craig nets 22 in a losing cause.
