Mike Kriegel tallies 21 points and Scott Cheney, 18, as Tupper Lake edges Saranac Lake 71-66, in overtime. Steve Johnson leads the Red Storm with 23 points while Matt Daunais nets 15.
Olivia Dwyer scores 22 points and grabs 19 rebounds to lead Keene to a 38-33 win over Elizabethtown-Lewis. Krista Cutting paces the Lions with 10.
20 YEARS AGO (1992)
Dan Tatro and Chris Huchro each score 2 touchdowns and John King throws 2 TD passes, one to Bill Allen, in Moriah’s 34-8 win over Delaware Valley in the Class D football semifinals. Mike Tromblee is the defensive MVP. The state playoffs go only as far as the semifinals with a state final set for 1993.
Cambridge, trailing 20-0, rallies to defeat Saranac Lake 21-20 on a trick double-pass play in the Class C football semifinals. Chris Cuttaia scores twice and Scott Nicholas, once, for Saranac Lake.
Mike McNamara, critically injured in an on-ice collision the year before, returns with his Elmira College teammates to Stafford Arena. A crowd of 3,410 watches as Plattsburgh State goaltender Mike Mondello stars in a 4-1 Cardinal victory.
Derek Martisus and Nick Fitzsimmons cross the line together in the annual Turkey Trot, in 34:15.
Peru’s 200-yard intermediate medley relay swim team of Stephanie Green, Kristi Spissinger, Sarah Sabourin and Beth McMurtry break an 11-year-old section record with a time of 2:00.03.
25 YEARS AGO (1987)
Lee Castor passes for 197 yards and 3 touchdowns to lead Watertown to a 26-0 victory over Saranac Lake in the North Country Super Bowl.
Craig King runs for one score and passes to Jim Phillips for another as St. John’s defeats Canton 28-8 in the North Country Class C championship. Jeff Jiampetti and Mike Pearl also score for the Irish, making their first postseason appearance.
Dave Daniels, with a time of 33:29, edges Brent Banker by 27 seconds to win the Turkey Trot. Gayle Giambruno is the first female to cross the line, in 43:58.
Matt Laramee scores 3 goals and assists on 2 others to help North Country Community College ice the Cornell University junior varsity 11-3.
Paul Yanulavich and Paul Covey each score 3 goals to lead the Lyon Mountain Legion to a 9-5 hockey win over the Saranac Lake Chiefs. Mark Deshaies gets 2 goals for the Chiefs and Tom Sullivan adds a goal and an assist.
Kim Ashlaw serves 22 points and Jill Rottier records 1 kills as Malone beats Massena 3-2 in volleyball. Jennifer Perry and Heather Hopkinson are the defensive standouts for the Huskies.
30 YEARS AGO (1982)
Junior split end Jack Daly sets 2 Dartmouth receiving records in a 43-20 win over Princeton. The former Peru standout sets career records for catches (55) and receiving yards (1,034).
The Strikes 5 out of Plattsburgh Lanes — Jeffery Welch, Todd Marsha, Jeff Way, Jonathan Frechette and Stacy Bardon — are honored for having the top handicap single (940) in the AJBC Bantam Mixed Division for 1981-82.
Dave Daniels rallies over the last 100 yards to beat Joe Desotelle with a time of 32:10 for his fifth Turkey Trot victory. Kim Norris is the first female to finish, coming in 14th out of 143 in 40:23.
Shirleen Dubuque, a former Northeastern Clinton field hockey star, is named to the New York State Field Hockey Team after posting 4 shutouts and a 1.28 goals-against average her sophomore season at SUNY Oswego.
Sophomore setter Mel Golden, a standout at MAI, helps Nazareth College win the Div. III championship in women’s volleyball.
MVP Jim Facteau hits Sam Churco with a TD pass and Kurt Bedore scores on a short run to lead Tupper Lake to a 14-8 win over Moriah in the Class C regional championship. Pete Mazzotte scores for the Vikings. The Lumberjacks’ Marvin Pickering is the defensive standout and Moriah’s Paul Lemza, the offensive star.
40 YEARS AGO (1972)
John Carpenter winds up the season leading the Plattsburgh State Cardinals in interceptions (7) and punt returns (15-194 yards). He is also third in tackles with 59, behind Steve Garcia (88) and John Coughenour (86). Tim White passes for 810 yards and 5 touchdowns for the 6-2 Cardinals.
Dave Olcott scores 24 points and pulls down 15 rebounds to spark Elizabethtown-Lewis to a 81-42 victory over Lake Placid. Steve Bickford leads the Blue Bombers with 14 points.
Galen Pereau pours in 25 points to lead Schroon Lake past Dannemora 92-72. Tim Haley leads the Knights with 20.
Wes Whitney’s jumper with 1:15 left gives Keene a 30-28 win over Hague. Greg Pelkey leads the Beavers with 12 points.

Miyauchi, Everleth, Canning, Clancy, Goddeau, Miller, Rock and Nichols all record pins as 3-time Section VII wrestling champ Saranac opens the season with a 35-18 win over Peru. Fountain, McGee, Bradley and Torrance win for Peru.
Chuck Shields scores 13 points and Don Howard, 12, to lead Beekmantown over Chazy 51-25. Jerry Butler nets 8 for Chazy.
60 YEARS AGO (1952)
Doug Mehne scores 17 points and Ken Humiston,11, to lead Plattsburgh State’s varsity to a 69-44 victory over the Alumni. Al Baldassari leads the grads with 10.
Steve Trybendis tosses in 18 points, Chet Hargett adds 11 and Emmett Hargett, 10, to lead Mineville past Crown Point 64-34.
Jerry Dufort scores 19 points, Don Ashlaw chips in with 17 and Dick Carroll contributes 13 as St. Joseph’s tops Chateaugay 54-38. Jack Mellon leads Chateaugay with 20.
