Lake Placid’s David Hunter and Larry Thomas set a course record of 3 hours, 50:29 minutes in the Adirondack Arc 30-Mile Canoe Race.

Lefty Culhane, a 5-year-old gelding owned by Barry White and driven by Harold Smith, breaks the 66-year-old track record for trotters at Malone with a time of 2:01.1.

Karen Lopez of Willsboro is the new president of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association.

Keith Mitchell returns an interception 45 yards for a score to help the Plattsburgh North Stars defeat the Twin City Vikings 25-14 for their third win in a row.

David Smith , with a .455 batting average and .649 slugging percentage, is named MVP of the American Legion Post 20 junior baseball team.

Betsy Trombley and Erin Casey collect 3 hits each and Denise Simard contributes a 2-run triple to power Chazy to a 12-6 win over French Connection and its third straight Women’s City Softball League championship.

Rene Germain scores the eventual game-winner as Keeseville edges Chazy-Giroux’s 2-1 in the North Country Men’s Soccer League final. Eric Redman scores on a penalty kick while Chris Keuleman accounts for the Giroux’s goal.

Gwen LaBarre scores twice and Megan Forttrell, Christine Trombley and Lou Blockson once each to give Denco a 5-1 win over Main St. Market in the women’s soccer final.

25 YEARS AGO (1987)

Plattsburgh State assistant hockey coach Brian Riley leaves after 3 years to become the No. 1 assistant at the University of Lowell.

Peru’s Andy Duprey (119 pounds) and Rob Bashaw (95), competing in the 13-14-year-old division, claim gold medals in wrestling at the AAU Junior Olympics.

Kevin McAllister steals home with the only run as Gordon’s Deli-Riverside, behind the 2-hit pitching of Stan Loya, beats Trum’s Sound 1-0 to win in its fifth straight AuSable Forks Fast-Pitch Softball League crown.

MVP Chris Waterbury scores two goals and adds an assist to lead Chazy-Giroux’s to its third straight North Country Men’s Soccer League title with a 3-0 win over Team Dash.

30 YEARS AGO (1982)

Roy Ano tosses a no-hitter and Jerry Hahn homers and drives in 3 runs to lead 20 Main to an 11-0 blowout of the Blue Bowl in the AuSable Forks Fast-Pitch Softball playoffs.

Anne Currier and Pat Damiano defeat Cindy Beebie and Diana Alexander 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 to win their third straight North Country Tennis Doubles title. Jon Gottschall and Tom Brown repeat as men’s champs while Stu Baum and Gil Duken take the seniors’ title.

John Upham hurls a 4-hitter with 10 strikes and also scores the game-winning run as Bloomingdale edges Moody’s Sunoco 3-2 to win the Larry Doyle League crown. Spencer Branch goes 3-for-4 for the winners while Rob Buckley is 3-for-4 for Moody’s.

Tom Harrigan and Randy Lashway score goals to give B & J Grocery a 2-1 win over Coopersville in the North Country Men’s Soccer League playoffs.

Penny Babbie makes a game-saving catch as City Plaza holds on to defeat Chazy 6-5 for the City Women’s Softball crown. Sandy Luff contributes an RBI triple and Mary Breyette a 2-run homer for the champs.

40 YEARS AGO (1972)

Mike St. Louis spins a one-hitter for Peru in Game 1 but Lyon Mountain rebounds to win Game 2 5-4 with Charlie Kowalowski’s 2-run double the big blow.

Terry Wiley, with 78 ringers, beats Smith Wiley to win the Men’s 7th Annual Schaefer Open Horse-Shoe Pitching Tournament. Carol Burdo wins the women’s title.

Linda Gagnon wins a toss-off to break a tie with Dawson Pratt for grand champion honors in the Miner Institute Horse Show.

Dennis Kennelty raps out 4 hits and Jim Defayette chips in with 3 to back the 6-hit pitching of Frank Miller as The Plaza Barbers defeat The Underwood Athletic Club 12-3 in the Gentlemen’s Slo-Pitch Softball League playoffs.

Brian Fennessy pitches a one-hitter with 13 strikeouts to lead Altona to a 13-1 win over West Chazy in Babe Ruth baseball.

Carl Rounds delivers a clutch RBI double and Dale Kline sparkles in relief as Lyon Mountain rallies for a 9-6 win over Peru to win the Adirondack League title.

Bill Casey clubs 3 triples to lead Redford past Dannemora in Babe Ruth baseball.

Dave Burdo belts 2 homers to back the shutout pitching of Joe Staves as Ubl & Adams downs Plattsburgh Lanes in Little League action. Mickey Melius also homers.

Miles Huckeba and Jay Paquin pitch back-to-back one-hitters as Schuyler Falls defeats Dannemora and Cliff Haven in Babe Ruth play.

Winning pitcher Harlon West strikes out 15 while losing pitcher Robin Bouyea fans 17 as Baker’s beats Nitzi’s 4-2 in the Plattsburgh Little League.

60 YEARS AGO (1952)

Kevin O’Connor rips 2 homers to lead the Plattsburgh A’s to a 5-3 win over the Malone Flames.

Charles Andrews Jr. pitches a no-hitter with 14 strikeouts as South Plattsburgh edges Woods Mills 2-0 in grasshopper baseball. Losing pitcher Trom gives up only one hit.

Keeseville’s Abare pitches a no-hitter in a 17-1 grasshopper win over Morrisonville.

Winning pitcher Rog LeClair helps his cause with a 2-run triple as the Dannemora grasshoppers defeat Cadyville 8-3.

Leroy Tyndall tosses a one-hitter and Clayton Defayette drills a 2-run homer for the Hornets in a 10-3 win over the Saints in Clinton County Junior Baseball.

70 YEARS AGO (1942)

Cossman Spinks goes 4-for-5 and Jimmy Mills and Mike Brodi contribute doubles as the Plattsburgh Majors rally to defeat Lyon Mountain-Clayburg 9-8. Brault has 4 hits in a losing cause.
