Julius LaRow, local taxicab driver and well-known wrestler, draws with Bull Mason of New York City in a 45-minute match at Camp Upton. Pvt. Murph Lorry of Plattsburgh reports on his army buddy.

The Saranac Ramblers defeat the Plattsburgh Lafayettes 4-1, 7-6, with Dutton and Carter leading the Rambers at the plate. O’Connell doubles for Plattsburgh.

60 YEARS AGO (1952)

Mike Breen scores on Roger LeClair’s fielder’s choice to cap a seven-run comeback as the Dannemora Dodgers down the Plattsburgh Yankees 8-7 to win the Clinton County Peewee League Championship.

Tommy Sorrell belts a 3-run homer and joins winning pitcher Wayne Ano with 3 hits as AuSable Forks dumps Plattsburgh Nitzi’s 11-5 to win the County Junior Division title.

Ace Holden’s travelling 4-man softball team tops the City League All-Stars 3-2 despite home runs from Bub Rock and Bob Bouyea. Holden allows 2 hits while whiffing 17.

50 YEARS AGO (1962)

Winning pitcher Bernanrd Siskavich clubs 2 homers to lead Lyon Mountain to a 14-2 thrashing of Morrisonville in the County Grasshopper final.

Nancy Myatt strikes out 17 and helps her cause with 2 hits as Beekmantown beats Lyon Mountain for the girls’ Little League title.

Dick VanHoesen pitches a one-hitter with 12 strikeouts and joins Jim Kaufman and Don Chenevert with base hits as Rouses Point tops Redford 8-3 for the boys’ Little League crown.

Linda Smith gets 3 hits and scores 4 runs to lead Dannemora to a 21-18 win over Cadyville in the girls’ Babe Ruth final while Scooter Giroux and Terry Ladd each collect 2 hits in Peru’s 16-9 triumph over Beekmantown for the boys’ crown.

Bob Zuckerman, driving a 1958 stick Ford, wins the K Stock 6-cylinder Class in drag racing at Hudson Falls.

Dale Mooney holds off Dennis Mooney to win the Men’s Division of the Target Archery Championship for the Pine Ridge Bowmen.

40 YEARS AGO (1972)

John Johnson tosses a one-hitter with 13 strikeouts as Ticonderoga thumps Schroon Lake 9-0 to win its own Little League tournament. John Kerr and Tony Bevilacqua each chip in with 2 hits.

Jim Cayea of Alburg, Vt. wins the final feature of the season at Plattsburgh International Raceway with fourth-place finisher Ron Miller of West Chazy capturing the season Charger Division title.

McGee Filion and Roy Hebert each get 3 hits while Steve Ashline, Jim Favreau and Guy Filion get 2 apiece as the Champlain K of C downs the Rouses Point Softball Club 9-6 to claim its third straight Lake Champlain Slo-Pitch Softball League.

30 YEARS AGO (1982)

Jim Forcier comes in with a 157 to edge Wally Edwards by 4 strokes for the Westport Golf & Country Club championship.

Former Peru running standout Kim Kemp, a graduate of the University of Wyoming, is named assistant track coach at Syracuse University.

Former Westport star Mike Bullock scores 2 goals in his North Country Community College soccer debut as the Saints down the SUNY Potsdam junior varsity 3-0.

Sandy’s Inn, champion of the Keeseville Medium-Pitch Softball League, captures the Peru Slo-Pitch title with a 10-8 win over Peru Pharmacy. Steve Lopez goes 3-for-4 while Rick Duprey and Bruce Furnia sock home runs.

Former Moriah and Plattsburgh State golf star Mike Shpur wins his second consecutive Northeastern New York PGA Assistant Pro Stroke Play Championship in Troy with a 4-over-par 136, topping former PSU teammate Dave Rihm by 5 strokes.

25 YEARS AGO (1987)

The Lake Placid mother-daughter team of Linda Friedlander and Diana Friedlander beat 13 teams without dropping a set to win the New York sectional tournament of the Equitable Family Tennis Challenge at the National Tennis Center in New York City.

Mike Perrotte wins the Egglefield 100 at Airborne Raceway while Tim Patinka captures the Pro Stock Division championship.

Bob Wilkins and Jane Chalmers win the club titles at the AuSable Valley Golf & Country Club.

Brad Marshall, Harry Stickles, Ed Bouyea and Mike Lamica all go 4-for-5 to lead Coors to a 27-10 drubbing of Chico’s in the final game of the Malone AmVets Gentlemen’s Slo-Pitch Softball League championship series.

Dave Daniels and Kathy Champagne win the Malone 5K Labor Day Classic and follow it up with victories in the Lake Placid Half Marathon.

20 YEARS AGO (1992)

Dick Cole beats John Zurlo, Jr. to win his second North Country Golf Club championship while Kathie Barcomb defeats Michaline Dufour for her fifth club crown.

James Ziglor scores from 3 yards out as the Plattsburgh North Stars top the Glens Falls Greenjackets 13-3. It is the Stars’ first touchdown in 11 quarters.

Holli Mulholland scores 3 goals and Krissy Whitbeck gets 3 assists to lead Plattsburgh High to a 3-2 win over Massena in the championship game of the Massena Autumn Leaves soccer tournament.

Scott Nicholas runs 16 yards to score as Saranac Lake tops Ticonderoga 6-0 in Bruce Bullock’s debut as Red Storm head coach.

Aaron Price and Josh Price combine for 200 yards rushing and Jason LeClaire throws a TD pass as Saranac beats Beekmantown 20-13, the Chiefs’ first win in the series since 1977.

Wayne St. Denis repeats in the Second-Annual Plattsburgh Toughman Competition.

Kim Hokanson beats 2-time state champion Sara Facteau by 45 seconds to lead the PHS girls to a 27-30 win over Peru in cross country.

10 YEARS AGO (2002)

Pat Leary scores his first varsity goal with 12:33 to play, giving Beekmantown a 2-1 upset of NAC in boys’ soccer.

Peru’s Brent Perry and Seton Catholic’s Gary Mathieu lead the way as the Indians and Knights defeat Saranac Lake to snap the Red Storm’s winning streak in boys’ cross country at 45.

Pat Bedore runs for 159 yards and 2 touchdowns to lead Tupper Lake to a 24-6 win over Saranac Lake, the Lumberjacks’ first win over their arch-rivals since 1982.

Bobbi Gooley scores 3 goals to lead Northeastern Clinton to a 4-0 win over Seton Catholic in girls’ soccer.
